Three '52s have made big splashes in the New York financial press during the past couple months. In a revamping of top management, John Rosenwald was named vice chairman of the Bear Stearns Companies. Luck for Dartmouth, trustee Rosie's new role will allow more time for fund raising for his favorite institutions-his alma mater and New York University Medical Center. John has spent his entire career with Bear Stearns where he headed institutional sales for 20 years and has been in charge of the corporate finance department since 1976. Our other trustee, Dick Bressler, chairman of Burlington Northern, made news again with his plans to spin the energy resources/railroad giant into separate operations.

Pete McSpadden's plans to retire from his post of president and chief operating officer of the big advertising firm, Saatchi & Saatchi DFS, Inc., were announced recently. Publicity of his retirement plans followed soon after the loss of the R.J. Reynolds-Nabisco advertising account as a result of an anti-smoking TV ad Pete's firm had created for Northwest Airlines. But Saatchi & Saatchi has emphasized that Pete, who is highly respected in the industry, had been planning his retirement since the merger of his former firm, Dancer Fitzgerald Sample with Saatchi & Saatchi some time ago. Pete joined Dancer Fitzgerald in 1959 after a short stop with McCann-Erickson following Dartmouth and a military stint. Good luck with your retirement plans, Pete. Having had a little practice at retirement thoughts before shifting gears, I'm available for advice.

Had a nice note from Tank Creamer who was wondering how I snuck into New York without him knowing. I will take him up soon on his suggestion for a get-together and report back on the Creamer clan.

Bumped into Jack Boyle a while back at a car dealer showroom. Seemed that son Edward-Perfect Edward they call him, the one who graduated from Dartmouth recently-racked up Jack's Corvette and Jack was searching for a replacement. Edythe and Dodie had also met recently while shopping for our respective moves. The Boyles had just set up a second home in a condo in Stuart, Fla., where a bunch of '53s already have places. Jack would like a little more '52 company there.

Elkins, chief of psychiatry at Maine Medical Center, was nominated to the Board of Regents of the nation's military medical college, the Uniform Services University of the Health Sciences.

Just learned that Bill Riehl passed away last year at his brother's home in Quechee, Vt., where he had moved after operating a printing business in New Jersey for several years.

Coming up next: an update on Julie Robinson, controversial treasurer of the New Jersey Highway Authority.
