Great letter from Buol Hinman, our upstate New York steel tycoon, reporting on a number of classmates. He says that Dr. Bob Clifton of North Andover, Mass., will retire completely from his practice of urology as of January first. Dr. Bill Nagle of Radnor, Pa., is still enjoying his work in radiology, specializing in mammography, and Dr. FredCaswell remains Rome, N.Y.'s finest dentist. Buol mentioned seeing RennyThompson two or three times a year at steel industry functions. Renny lives in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and is chairman of Oglebay Norton Cos., and, according to Buol, "hosts great cocktail parties." Jack Howard, an upstate neighbor from Skeneateles, is still very active as a manufacturers' representative, and he and his wife, Ruth, were in Oregon last summer for a grandson's high school graduation.

Belated news from Houston, Tex., of John Wolfe's marriage last April to Treecy Whitehead. Treecy is the managing director of Quaker House products. John's former wife, Alice, died two and a half years ago of cancer. He continues to be super active as head of Wolfe Institute, his sales training firm, and running the Sales and Marketing Executives Society of Houston.

Ross Bacon reported that he would miss the mini-reunion "due to concern about temperatures which seem awfully cold to this Floridian if under 65°." He did, however, manage a trip north in his RV in September, including a visit to Hanover where he saw the exciting Penn game.

After 25 years with Federated Department Stores,Eugene Bronstein, a resident of Brookline, Mass., continues to teach marketing in the School of Management at Boston College.

Frank Cole is now retired after 37 years with Merrill Lynch & Cos., much to the envy of his fellow employees. Frank and Mary Jane attended the Harvard game and minireunion with Bob and Jackie Hooper and Bob and Tina Doran.

Those of you who were lucky enough to be in the vi cinity of Vail and Beaver Creek, Colo., during January 29 February 12 perhaps were able to visit with Sandy Treat. He was a member of the organizing and race committees for the 1989 World Skiing Championships held at those locations. Sandy is also prepping for the masters racing season.

Most regretfully I must report the passing this late fall of Joseph Howard DavenportJr. after a long illness. Joe was a lifelong resident of the Lookout Mountain-Chattanooga, Tenn., area, where he was an outstanding business and civic leader. In September he, along with his close friend, Scott Probasco Jr. '50, were joint recipients of the Dorothy Patten "Love of Chattanooga" Award for distinguished accomplishments in business or the professions, as well as for significant contributions to the community. Those privileged to know Joe at Dartmouth, or in subsequent years, can well appreciate how deserving he was of this award and of the many, many meaningful accomplishments during his lifetime. Our sincere condolences go to his wife, Hedy, and to his entire family.
