The recipient of this year's Class of 1936 Women's Award is Tara McBennett. She was a designated Presidential Scholar and graduated magna cum laude. In her junior year she was VP of the Student Assembly, and in '91-'92, as its president, she continued many of the services of her predecessor, such as publishing course guides and student directories. Tara plans to pursue a master's in education at Harvard. As of mid-September Bill Niss was back home after completing his own courselearning to walk again after being off his feet for some six weeks. He was still using a walker but planned to be in Hanover for the fall mini.

Frank Kappler also had some difficulty walking, after a hip revision. At last report he was coming along according to schedule after a lengthy surgical procedure. However, the day before the operation he got a bone stuck in his throat and was afraid the surgery might have to be postponed. Fortunately the bone was chicken and, although it did cause some serious throat damage, it cleared out in time for the hip operation to go on as scheduled.

Dean Nicholson has not only been on his feet but he entered—and finished—the Falmouth (Mass.) Road Race in mid-August. He admits that he had no thoughts of winning the 7.1 mile race, but just to finish such a race at our age is no mean feat. The Boston Globe ran a two-column interview with Dean, accompanied by his picture, the day of the race, so the pressure was really on him to finish. In addition to running in this race for the past 18 years, Dean still goes to his Lexington law office several days a week.

One of our West Coast spies has reported that back in May Frank and Elsie Weston were honored at a Salvation Army "Tradition of Caring" Award Dinner. Our source says they are an incredibly deserving couple, and that Elsie recently "won an award as the most effective volunteer in the entire San Diego County." Our hats off to both!
