Four guys who used to reside in Hitchcock Hall got together at the wedding of Bill Beshore to Martha Arietta in San Francisco last winter, a first marriage for both. Joe Scardapane described the wedding celebration as a world-class event. According to Joe, also present were their old roomie, Fritz Arens, and fellow Hitchcock resident Dave Campbell. Joe savs the group had such a good time that they're looking forward to getting together again.
Jon Cook, who works for the Bureau of Land Management in Alaska, says he has been reviewing land withdrawals by the U.S. Army, and has been engaged in some interesting archaeological and paleontological surveys. Fellow Alaskan Norrie Nims writes that, while attending a companysponsored avalanche course, he was surprised to find out that his instructress was Jill Fredston '80. Also in northern climes is Dick Taylor who, after three years as National Nordic Team coach, began a training program for cross-country skiers at Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine, where he teaches computers and German.
After 12 years with the State Department's Foreign Service Institute in Arlington, Va., Scott Palmer packed his bags and moved on last fall to Boston University to teach Latin American politics and U.S. policy. He says that so far it's been a good challenge and good fun. Scott mentions that son Walter '90 is "much more successful on a basketball court than I ever was," and that son Crawford is a freshman at Duke, where he, too, has basketball aspirations to go with his scholarship there. It comes as no surprise then that son Asa, who is in eighth grade, plays basketball too! I am sure I speak for the entire D.C.-area Dartmouth contingent when I say, "Our loss is Boston's gain, Scott!" Good luck in the new job!
Mike Hellman, who earned his M.A. in chemistry at Dartmouth in 1961, works for Estee Lauder. A resident of Huntington, N.Y., Mike was elected chairman of the board of the Huntington Township Chamber of Commerce. As most of you know, along with Bob Werbel, Mike serves ably as 1959's co-head class agent. Mike says that he and Connie became grandparents in December. He adds that daughter Elizabeth, the last of their four children, matriculated at Dartmouth last fall.
Pete Vultee relocated within the San Francisco Bay area, from Los Altos to San Ramon. Says Pete: "If there's anywhere in the country that is Yuppieville, U.S.A., this is it. I chase BMWs down Highway 680 into the Santa Clara valley each day, usually coming in last in my Toyota."
Read Heydt took two sons Michael, 7, and Charlie, 10 to Hanover last summer for a week of camping. He remarks, "It's a great spot for a divorced single parent to spend some quality time with his sons." He says Charlie would like to follow in his father's and grandfather's footsteps to Dartmouth.
