Sometimes writing this column is tension city. Read my lips, tension city. But, because many of you wrote recently, I'm as happy as a prisoner on a weekend furlough program.
The best of America is yet to come. Jane Caterina Greer and husband Larry had a son, Michael Thomas, back on July 28, 1988. They live in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, where Jane is the director of telecommunications at Union Life Insurance Company. Mike Palitz and wife Gabrielle are the proud parents of Elianora Michele, born last September 19 in New York.
Rick Salchunas is a doctor in Concord, N.H. Dr. Salchunas has joined Concord Obstetrics & Gynecology, P.A., and has been appointed to the associate staff at Concord Hospital with privileges in obstetrics and gynecology. Humor is not appropriate on this topic, and I will therefore exercise my customary restraint.
Have a question about the geological makeup of the Galapagos Islands? Dennis Geist can answer it. Dr. Geist earned his Ph.D. from the University of Oregon and is now an assistant professor of geology at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y.
Our class invaded Hanover for Homecoming like a thousand points of light. Chris Bensley, Bob Burnham, ScottZashin, Bill Goodspeed, John Steel,Mike McClintock, and Bill Helman were among those in attendance. Others of us watched Dartmouth whip Harvard on ESPN. Meanwhile, back in Hanover, 'Bos debated whether the frats smell worse now than when we were in school, or whether our more sophisticated noses are now repulsed by the same stench we encountered in our youth. Opinions were split fifty-fifty. All of this from my reporter in the field, Steve Brooks.
Brooksie and wife Cathy live in Acton, Mass., near Jeff Sawyer and his wife, Chris, as well as Peter Rosenberg and wife Lori. The Sawyers and Rosenbergs are members of the G.O.P. (Grand Old Parents), with a girl and boy, respectively.
Rob Daisley, a Tampa lawyer with whom I discuss Florida law from time to time on the telephone, has been married since March of 1988. Rob, what's the poor woman's name? At the wedding, Gretchen and Brian Boyer performed a rousing rendition of "Ain't Too Proud to Beg," a song recently made the theme song of the Democratic Party.
Jennifer Prigge Buhl writes from her home in Germany. Jenni traveled to Ravensburg, Germany, on a Fulbright in 1985. She met Peter Buhl, an electronics engineer, and married him in May 1987. Last February, the Buhls added son Markus to their family. When not tending to Markus, Jenni teaches English. The Buhls live in the "Deep South" (a very good place to live), where Germany, Switzerland, and Austria come together.
In a recent conversation with the editor of this column, I compared myself to former Class Notes secretary Mike Carothers. Replied the editor with a smirk, "I know Mike Carothers. I worked with Mike Carothers. And Wade, you're no Mike Carothers." "That's uncalled for, editor," I responded indignantly, "but thanks anyway. What a relief!"
In all seriousness, let's work for a kinder, gentler College in 1989. And for those of you who do not see your names or those of your friends in this column, just call or write. I hear the quiet voices ...
