Greetings, fellow '80s! I am honored to take on the challenge of co-columnist for our class and to help Wade Herring-keep track of the "goings on." I am a little worried about finding all of you, as you are scattered throughout the world. Please help me out by dropping me a line, emailing a note, or leaving a message on my telephone. I am looking forward to being reunited with my Dartmouth classmates. My husband Eric and I reside in Sturbridge, Mass., with our two children, Amy 13 and Michael 11. I made a career change three years ago and left the business world after 15 years in the building industry. I now teach art at Tantasqua Jr. High School. If you are ever looking for a challenging and rewarding experience (and a chance to really impact the future!), you might consider a change to the teaching profession.
I am happy to report that there are other 'Bos making career changes at the age of 40. Laura Prescott Duffy has decided to become a "fall-fledged professional genealogist." Laura is combining her love of writing with her skills in genealogy to publish family histories. If you would like help tracking your family roots you can reach Laura by e-mail at . Laura, her husband, Paul, and children Katie 8 and Nathan 5 live in Brookline, N.H.
There are, however, many classmates who have remained in the same career since they left Dartmouth. Cathy MacKinnon has been working in the greater Hartford area for the past 18 years developing affordable housing projects. Cathy and her husband, Mike Hurlburt, live in Enfield, Conn. They love motorcycling and recently motorcycled up and down the East Coast.
Plans are now underway for our 20th Reunion. Marty Peterson has graciously accepted the critical post of class of 1980 Reunion chair. If you would like to be a part of the planning committee or are interested in helping to develop a theme and logo for our 20-year celebration, Marty would love to hear from you. You can reach Marty by phone at (773) 883-0678 or by e-mail at . Speaking of reunions, you don't have to wait until June 2000 to be reunited with Dartmouth classmates. DanZenkel reports that exciting preparations are being made for a mini-reunion event in August. By now you should have received a mailing with all of the details: a weekend retreat, rustic waterfront cabins, fields and courts galore, evening activities, and, best of all, child friendly so that the whole family can enjoy a Dartmouth experience! I hope you have marked the date on your calendar and have sent in your reservation for a cabin. Sounds like a great time!
Have a wonderful spring. I will look forward to hearing from many of you (otherwise, I could fill the column with my weekly experiences with 275 13- and 14-year-old adolescents—heartwarming tales of joy and sorrow).
