It's amazing to me, as I return to journalistic endeavors as class scribe, the various sources which provide leads about our many pursuits. While listening to the radio recently, I heard the announcement that more indictments had been obtained in the infamous W edtech scandal in the Bronx by none other than former roommate Ed Kuriansky. Ed heads an investigation unit in the New York State Attorney's office, which also exposed the scandal in New York City nursing homes a few years back. When I last saw our '66 super sleuth a little over a year ago at our 25th high school reunion, he looked every inch the dedicated crime stopper ... trim, fit, black mustache, wire rimmed glasses . .. someone you definitely want to count as a friend.
Word also arrived via a newsletter from a strange-sounding fraternity, Chi Gamma Epsilon (once known as Kappa Sigma), that Paul Darling has retired after 20 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. He now is a consultant in defense-related issues and chairs the computer information systems and mathematics department at Southwestern University. Paul, his wife, and three sons now call Springfield, Va., home. From nearby Reston, comes word from KenMeyercord that Dave Coughlin is doing his best to trim some of Ken's 200-plus frame off on the tennis court. Apparently the excess poundage is partly the fault of Ken's devoted Arabian wife, Samra, who for 16 years has been plying his palate with her special stuffed goose. If tennis doesn't do the trick, Catharine and I have a lot of work left at our new vacation home at Mt. Ascutney to which all '66s are always welcome whether or not the goal is more limber limbs.
