It's been a while since my last report on our where abouts and accomplishments. It was 1970 when I relinquished the reins of "Along Route 66" to pursue Fulbright studies in the Soviet Union. Eighteen years, one marriage, and two careers later I've agreed to try again, as ChuckVernon graciously passes the secretarial duties on from Windsor to Cos Cob, Conn.

Though one of my careers (in the newspaper business) was short-lived, one of 1966's strong contingent of would be publishers has persevered. Pete Pritchard, 15 year news veteran of the Gannett newspaper chain, has been named Gannett's senior vice president for news and editor of USA Today. Pete, a native of Thief River Falls, Minn., and former dorm mate on the fourth floor of Gile Hall, first tested his journalistic prowess for the DCAC Sports Information Office. He and wife Ann and their two children reside in Washington, D.C.

Tom Brady is another '66 making frontpage news. His Plastic Technologies, Inc., a Toledo-based research and development company which our former Thayer standout founded in 1985 has landed a big contract to develop a new plastic beverage container for Coca-Cola. Details are still top secret, but rumor has it that the traditional container manufacturers are more than a little concerned. Tom is also working to make recycled plastic a more viable raw material for the production of new plastic containers.

Bill Gruver is undoubtedly someone Tom will be consulting. Bill is among the elite recently voted to full partnership status at Goldman, Sachs & Co., New York-based investment bankers.

Our class executive committee gathered in Hanover last fall to hear undergraduate Graham Herrick '91, first recipient of our class research grant, report on his findings on the impact of acid rain on soil and forestation in the Northeast. Allan Anderson, Paul Doscher, Dave Johnson, SteveLanfer, and Terry Lowd also laid plans for a mini-reunion this coming October 14. Dick Birnie, who pioneered the selection of our first class research project, will repeat his efforts this year. He also addressed our local (Fairfield County) alumni club in December on his own geophysics research on and off campus. Listening to Birnie is both humbling and inspiring.
