According to DonSchwartz, Bill Haden performed admirably (sic) at the commissioning of his new command, the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln. Don attended the ceremonies along with 17,000 others, including the Secretary of Defense and the governor of Illinois and Don's son, Mike. Don, who makes his home with his wife and two sons on the shores of Lake Michigan (Evanston, Ill.) speculates that commanding the 6,000 personnel of the Abraham Lincoln should prove no more difficult than running the SAE chapter meetings which he also directed almost 25 years ago. No argument there.

Don also mentioned that his regular class contacts incude Bob Nash, Peter Tuxon,Jeff Winograd, and Jay Vincent.

Dr. Peter Dorsen constributed a memorable quote to a recent issue of Ski Racing, which I feel deserves one more reprinting: "Some would contend that I have become a spineless, middle-aged wimp because a few years back, I stopped doing races longer than 30kms. Now, I like to be done with my race in time to reach the finish of the longer race, so I can cheer on all my friends who are completing what strikes me as more of a modern death march than recreation."

Although the news of Rick Reiss's involvement in a substantial family grant to the Rockefeller Center has been told elsewhere, the gratitude of our class should also be added to the accolades already extended by the College and the Center. Rick's generosity enabled the Center to complete a significant matching grant from the Rockefeller family and fund, among other things, an annual competition for manuscripts on topics related to the environment, Third World issues, and public policy. That is certainly getting one's priorities in order. Well done, Rick.

As you read this column, I should be taking up my duties as head of Metlife's newest European office in Geneva, Switzerland. I will continue to maintain a P.O. box stateside, though, so the price of writing will remain a bargain for a few months longer. Why not take advantage of the opportunity and drop a line.
