Dear Class: Nice letter from Hal Sommer, who is joining the ranks of the retired after multo years with Jockey International and Wolf Management. Hal and Sally will be at home in Winnetka and during February, March, and April at 8310 Manasota Key Road, Englewood, FL 34223. Travelers are invited!

And then a note from Jerry Schnitzer, who is helping on the 50th book by gathering memoirs from those of us who labored in the creative area. He's heard from MelWax, Page Smith, Tom George, JayWeinberg, Jim Young, and Les Nichols, with more to come. Jerry's wife, Vee, has been battling lung cancer and we're glad to tell you that as of the end of March Jerry says she's doing better than just holding her own. We're all pulling for you, Vee!

Bob Armstrong writes from Charlotte, N.C., to say hi and report that Davidson College has dropped to a lower-ranking division in football. Unfortunately no more nice fall trips to that attractive spot.

We are sorry to report the passing of another classmate. Henry M. Sp,encer Jr. died this past April. Our sympathies go to his family and friends. There will be an obituary in this or a subsequent issue.

Lloyd and Peg Blanchard spun out of the cold for some time in Sanibel, Fla. All is well with them.

Johnny Crandell just got under the wire with this card: "I'm still recuperating from 40 days in the hospital lost my bladder to cancer but am coming along fine. They claim they got it all and the first checkup confirms. I've started golf again, playing nine holes to get up to speed. Betty is fine and we head for Vermont June 15. See you all at the 50th!" Good going, John!

Here's a WHW for Tom Todd, who has been given the 1989 Ben Franklin Award by the Printing and Publishing Council of New England. In giving the award, the council noted that Tom is the fourth generation Todd to operate the Thomas Todd Company. Well done, Tom!

Coming Events Department: Less than a year from now, we will be gathering on the Hanover plain for the fabulous 50th Reunion of the class of 1940. I am in hopes that all ambulatory classmates will be there. I recognize that there are a lot of negative attitudes towards the College among classmates. I have a few myself. I submit that your feelings are your own business and that they shouldn't necessarily keep you from seeing old friends again and making some new ones at our class reunion. See you there!
