Class Officers Weekend produced the usual good turnout of '45s Cliff and Betty Jordan, Don Cole (Ricky was babysit ting a grandchild), George and Betsy Barr, Vic and Vesta Smith, John and Molly White, John Osborn (Jan was babysitting their child!), Ted and Pat Smith, and the Leggats. For the first time the Berry Sports Center and the basketball court of the Alumni Gym were used for different activities. The latter brought back memories of the glory days of Dartmouth basketball when the Ivy League trophy lived in Hanover and there were regular trips to the NCAA tournament. To my best recollection Mo Monahan was our only classmate who played on a regular basis but maybe some of you can correct me. During the weekend there was much discussion by treasurers and secretaries about Alumni Magazine subscriptions, and payment therefor. It really is a magazine for and by alumni and class dues help keep it on a breakeven basis. It was interesting to learn that some of the recent classes charge the same amount for dues that we paid in 1945.

As usual 1945 did not win any mention in the class of the year category not even an honorable mention. But individual merit was recognized. Osborn was elected president of the class treasurers and White will have the same job for bequest chairmen, while Vic Smith retired as leader of Alumni Fund chairmen.

Frank and Jeanne Hutchins had a more exciting trip than anticipated when they were part of a round-the-world Concorde trip with William Buckley in April. A piece of the rudder broke off at 40,000 feet, but the pilot was able to land the plane in Sydney, Australia, and the only injuries were to the nervous systems.

Moose Rowan missed his annual spring trip to New England for golf and Alumni Council in order to take Joan to the West Coast and China from May 14 to June 5. They also had unexpected excitement with the unrest in China. Art and Jean Pounds visited sons in Washington, and in Winston-Salem, N.C., which led to a visit with the Rowans.

Frank Aldrich, who was spending time in Caracas in connection with his new bank in Curacao, saw John Phelps, and his fiancee, Anna Maria Velogquez, who is also a banker. Frank reports that John is on top of everything despite problems in Venezuela and that he sends warmest regards to his classmates.

Moe Frye reported that he, Irv Graves, and Dave McAuliffe represented 1945 at the annual dinner for Eastern Mass alumni in Burlington, Mass. He suggested that there was greater attendance when it used to be in Boston. Moe and Irv and Dave as well as Cliff Jordan, Vic Smith, and SteveHull worked on the Alumni Fund telethon in Boston.

In looking over recent columns a number of names keep repeating. Let us know what all of you are doing, because it will provide variety and your friends are interested. Also, since this reaches you in midsummer, make plans for the mini-reunion in September. And start thinking about the 45th less than two years away.
