Congratulations are in order for a number of our classmates and perhaps especially for our reelected Alumni Trustee, Bob Danziger, who waged a successful campaign against stiff opposition. Bob has served faithfully and well for the past five years, and we look forward to his continued dedicated service to the College during his second five-year term.

Kudos are also in order for George Cohan, who has been named headmaster of The Cambridge School, Weston, Mass. George has 30 years of experience in educational leadership in independent, public, university, and international settings. Among other appointments, he has taught at Wesleyan University and served as principal of Staples High in Westport, Conn., and as head of the American School in Paris. Most recently, he has been co-director of the New Walden Lincoln School in New York City.

And, finally, congratulations to Theodore Wadleigh, recently elected chairman of the board of directors of the United Saving Bank. Ted is a partner in the law firm of Wadleigh, Starr, Peters, Dunn and Chiesa of Manchester, N.H., and has been a member of the board of United since June 1986.

While the election process was still going on, I had a long call from Bill Behresis, who was concerned about the state of the College and about the pending election. Bill is particularly concerned that news of the College flows very slowly to the hinterlands, and one is never quite sure whether one is receiving news, rumor, or propaganda. In an effort to learn more and become more involved, Bill is seriously considering running for a position on the Alumni Council.

Recently received a letter from HowardSodokoff with a photo taken at his son Larry's wedding a year ago. Larry went to Tulane, but there were a lot of Dartmouths Eresent: best man Scott Sodokoff '87, ridesmaid Stephanie Sempervivo '86, Dick Whitney, Jack Tamagni, Cube Conroy, and Dan Bigda '68. Howard notes that Georgia Whitney pinch-hit for a missing piano player. "She was just great, and we will always treasure the thought and the occasion."

And Howard sent along a note thanking "all of our classmates who have supported the Alumni Fund and my efforts as class agent. Whatever controversy exists in anyone's mind, it should not confuse or interfere with the College's needs in connection with providing an outstanding student body (it was, it is, and it always will be) with the superior education Dartmouth is known for."

An article in The New York Times, sent in by Clem Malin, describes a new public library, scheduled to open in Haverhill, Mass., in 1992, designed by the Hanover firm of Mark Mitchell Associates. The 60,000-square-foot library, part of new civic center, will include a room designed specifically for homeless people. The room, filled with plants and hirnished with sofas and easy chairs, will feature magazines, newspapers, and brochures on social services offered by the community. Perhaps Mark's idea will catch on in other areas with similar problems.

That's it for now. Keep those cards and letters coming.
