Another of our classmates has decided to reduce his work schedule: Bob Nutt, who for the past three years has been the alumni news editor, is changing to the position of consultant on both editorial and advertising projects for the Dartmouth Alumni Magazine. He will, however, maintain his position as secretary of the Dartmouth Secretaries Association.
Vail and Barbara Haak took a trip to Alaska this summer and those of you who attend the mini this month will have a chance to learn about it.
Punchy and Doris Thomas had a visitation of Guy and Priscilla Busch, who stopped by Hanover after many years of absence from the campus. Guy had come north from Orlando to attend a 45th reunion at Tabor Academy and took the opportunity to see all the changes at the College.
While on the subject of Florida, I received a note from another classmate in this area. Johnny Everett wrote that he and Deke Jackson represented the '49ers as active bearers at Spud Parsons' funeral and said that his passing was a shock to all who knew him as he had more drive than many could fathom, with interests in sports, medicine, gardening, music, sailboat racing, the environment, and bridge. He will be missed by all the Dartmouth friends in the area.
Then John reported that he and Susan joined Dick and Mary Lou Moersch in London and Salisbury while on a trip to England. It gave them all a good chance to sample pints of lager, bitters, and an occasional shandy. Since Dick lives in California and John in Florida, England seemed to be the ideal place to meet.
Jay Urstadt continues to make news and accumulate honors. The latest is an honorary doctor of laws received from Pace University at their commencement held at Radio City Music Hall. Congratulations, Jay!
It was most interesting to receive an article about Peter Gish which ran in his area's local paper. Peter has been an associate professor of fine arts at Fairfield University for the past 16 years. The article pointed out that since 1945 Peter has produced 50 to 100 oils and watercolors a year, and no wonder his work is on display as part of the Hartshorn collection, the U.S. Marine Corps historical collection in Washington, D.C., and the Dartmouth College collection in Hanover. During the Vietnam War he was a combat artist for three months and produced 150 paintings about this war that are now in the historical museum in Washington.
Am hoping to see many of you at the fall gathering and games.
