1949

The fall mini-reunion was blessed with good weather on Saturday and Sunday but damp and cool on Friday night so that the usual parade was abbreviated. The business meeting of class officers and executive committee approved two items of interest. First, after eight years it was decided that a $5 dues increase was needed to get away from deficit financing (which isn't as popular as it used to be). So when you get your dues bill in 1993 it will be $30. Second, after much discussion it was decided to change the minireunion weekend to October 9, the New Hampshire game, instead of the usual Dartmouth Night.

This year Dartmouth Night is October 30 very late in the season and certainly beyond the peak of the foliage season. Many of our classmates are now heading south for the winter, and so by that time the ducks will have also left. But in addition to these reasons, we no longer have exclusive use of the Faculty Lounge on the big weekend since in the future all campus facilities will be assigned by lottery. The conclusion was that an earlier gathering (and other classes are adopting such) would enhance our weekend with guaranteed meeting accommodations and a good chance for fine weather and colorful foliage.

The consensus of those in attendance was that Punchy Thomas should again reserve the Lake Morey Inn for this reunion where golf, tennis, and indoor swimming might add to the weekend fun.

The game was great, and the fact that it was attended by the largest group of classmates yet added to the cheers at Memorial Field. Our dinner in the Wheelock Room in the Inn featured Professor Shapiro of the Government Department, who discussed the current political climate. In the next issue of the magazine we will publish citations for the winners of the Pick Axe.
