Among this month's news is word that Mitchel Wallerstein has been appointed deputy executive officer of the National Research Council, which is the principal operating agency of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, and the Institute of Medicine.

Russell Mittermeier, president of Conservation International and chairman of the primate specialist group of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, recently reported the discovery by a group of Brazilian scientists of a new species of monkey on Superaqui, an island along the country's heavily populated Atlantic coast. He was quoted at length on the discovery in an article published on June 21 in the New York Times.

Tom Pugh and Bob Milbert recently completed the Minnesota legislative session as House members and face re-election this fall. Tom is finishing up his freshman term, while Bob is completing his second. Tom is the subject of a feature article entitled "New Man in the House" in the March issue of Minnesota Monthly, in which Bob also receives considerable mention. Before embarking on his political career, Tom was a partner in the South St. Paul law firm of Thuet, Pugh & Rogosheske. Tom, wife Susan and their son Doug, live in South St. Paul.

Douglas Jones was named a partner in the Rochester, N.Y., law firm of Chamberlain, D'Amanda, Oppenheimer & Greenfield, where he concentrates his practice in the area of construction and environmental litigation. Before joining the firm, he served for more than five years as an assistant district attorney in Monroe County, N.Y. He is active in the Monroe County and American Bar Associations and serves as a member of the ABA's forum committee on the construction industry. He also chairs the Mendon Historical Commission.

Michael Roberts has joined with the Catalano Insurance Agency in forming a new insurance firm, Roberts and Catalano, in North Andover, Mass. Prior to his association with Catalano Insurance, he spent 15 years as commerical sales manager with American Mutual In Andover. Thomas Morton left Cesar Pelli and Associates after 12 years to open his own architectural firm in New York. He recently directed the design of the Canary Wharf in London and is currently working on a large project in Tokyo. Tom's wife, Margaret, just completed a photographic exhibit on shelters built by the homeless.
