Among this month's news items is word that Mac Barrett married Leigh Martin, a 1977 graduate of Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Va., on November 21. Mac writes: "There was little doubt that after attending our glorious tenth reunion, she was hooked as a permanent member of the Dartmouth family. Skeptics claim that with no baseball for two months this summer, I was driven to drastic action. Thanks to all for making our reunion such a fun occasion."
John Conway has taken a year's leave from his law practice in Camden, S.C., to work on his LL.M. in tax at Emory Law School in Atlanta.
From Rick Paris: "I'm enjoying my two-year-old daughter Abigail and am busy as assistant director of International Homemakers, the fastest-growing home-health company in Massachusetts. I'm also a member of the Town of Lincoln, Mass., Housing Commission."
Mike Maynard is alive and well and living in New York (sounds like a show). He's completed his M.B.A. at Harvard and is working for Warner Communications.
From Steve Zrike: "A quick note to fill you in on the latest developments in the Chronicle of the Zrike Clan. I've just been promoted to the position of associate director, business development and planning, of Colgate-Palmolive Company, with specific responsibility for the oral care category (which is corporate lingo for toothpaste). 'Business development' is a new concept at Colgate. We've been given the mandate of drawing up, for the first time, a global plan and market strategy for our toothpaste business, which is the largest in the world. It's a tall order, but very exciting (and visiting Paris certainly beats doing store checks in Cleveland!).
"On the home front, we now have three kids - Stevie (six), Sara Maria (five), and Andrew (two). Rumor has it that another (gulp!) is on the way. Actually, Sara will have it in October or thereabouts. (Any contributions to the Zrike Family Tuition Fund will be greatly appreciated. They're not tax-deductible, but I'll write a very nice thank-you note.)"
Male Jones and Randy Davis '70, at last writing, had just completed five days of climbing in the Tetons, where they enjoyed great scenery and great climbing.
Finally, there is word that John Short and his wife Ethel are living in Valencia, Venezuela, with their children Sam (22 months) and Rebecca (seven months). John has been with Citibank for the past five years in New York, Ecuador, and, now, Venezuela. He expects to be transferred shortly to another post, possibly in Caracas or outside of Venezuela.
That's all for now. See you next month.
