This is the month when the powers that be in the publishing of this MAGAZINE request the scribes who labor, lovingly, with the class notes, to take it easy. We suspect that under normal circumstances, when our files do not exactly bulge with data re: our classmates, we would receive such "lay low" orders with a sigh or two of relief. It happens, though, that our files do bulge, thanks to the 200 stalwarts who returned questionnaires to us, and we hasten to assure you that future issues of this MACAZINE and the peerless Skiddoo will furnish the dope on all these men, ineluding many whose goings-on have not been aired for many a moon.

We recently learned of the death, September 27, 1949, of Ernest C. Smith, in Sarasota, Fla. When our efforts to put together the facts as to Ernest's career have been successful a notice containing such information will appear in the In Memoriam section in a later issue. Ernest was a prominent insurance broker who lived at 468 West Hillview Avenue, Sarasota. His wife and two sons survive him.

An In Memoriam notice appears in this issue about D. Kelso Mairs, who passed away January 4, 1950. Kelso's wife and four children survive him.

Your Secretary, in your behalf, has expressed the sympathy of the Class to the families of both of these men, whose loss we deeply regret.

James Prescott (Jack) Stanley lives at 1207 Hull Street, South, St. Petersburg, Fla. Jack and wife Holly have a son Tim, who is now 16. Most of Jack's career has been spent in New England, but he is fondest of his present job and its setting. For the past year he's been manager and underwriter of the Gulf Life Insurance Company of St. Petersburg. His hobbies come naturally to a Floridian, where boats and fishing are part and parcel of the fuller life available down there.

BRILLIANT NEW QUIZ PROGRAM

Your correspondent is inaugurating herewith (and also bringing to a close in the same issue) a brilliant new quiz program. For background data we announce that Alice and Irish Flanigan are going abroad in the Spring. Now—and here is the quiz questionwhere are they going? The only help we will give you is to furnish the following clues: (1) the place is an (2) the snakes which formerly abounded there were chased away by a saint whose name begins with a P; (3) all the girls are named Mavourneen; (4) many of the men are well known for their black beards and truculent dispositions Although what follows has little or no connection with the above, somehow we are reminded of a story passed along to us by Bert Teagle about the Irishman. We quote: "Those of us who were fortunate 1 ough to take Spanish with Flanigan could kiways count on hearing his rather free and original translations, which were the result of his sound (?) preparation of class work. However, there were times when Irish felt a true literal translation was more appropriate, particularly when he was sure he was on solid ground. I remember one day when he was called upon to do a passage which contained a number of exclamations such as 'Jesus Cristo,' 'Dios Mio,' and 'Por Dios.' With great feeling Irish translated 'Jesus Christ,' 'My God,' and 'for God's sake.' The Spanish prof didn't crack a smile, and interrupted Irish only to explain that a more correct version of each of these exclamations would be 'good gracious,' or 'my goodness,' or something similar. The next few lines which the Irishman had to handle contained a few more such phrases. Our hero, without breaking his stride, rendered each of them with a hearty 'HOT DOG!' Only the bell saved the class from complete disintegration!"
