Arnie George, in a note on his Christmas card to Chinee and Margaret Allen, tells about his surgery at Massachusetts General. The surgery as such was successful, but resulted in nearly fatal pneumonia; fourteen weeks in the hospital and in a rehabilitation unit followed by residence in a nursing home where he had cared for many of his own patients over the years. He felt that he got very special care as the various staffs all knew him. He can get out of the nursing home to see his children and to attend meetings and sounds surprisingly happy for what he has been through. Moreover, his handwriting is firm and legible, a record for any doctor regardless of age, injuries, or illness.

The next news is all bad. Beatie Adams, widow of Jeff, died on January 4. She was a wonderful person and did more for the class and College than almost anyone else. She started a program for class widows years ago which became a prototype for other classes to follow. She personally corresponded with all new widows and kept up a running correspondence with all the widows. She was a regular attendant at class reunions and mini-reunions, a member of the class executive committee, and a fundraiser par excellence. We shall all miss her.

Dave Dyche, chairman of our 65 th Reunion and long-time bequest co-chairman of the class, died suddenly in Hanover on January 8. A full obituary will appear in the magazine in due course.
