Congratulations are in order for a number of '77s this time 'round, for a variety of efforts in a variety of places.

Effective this summer, Todd Horn will become head of The Orme School, a private school in Arizona. Todd has recently been serving as assistant headmaster of the Colorado Springs School, and, before that, taught science and coached football at Hawken School in Ohio, his alma mater. He holds a master's degree in education from Harvard, and is finishing an M.B.A. from U. Colorado. He and his wife, Jane Booty Horn, a writer, have one son' David 3.

Janice Lee Swain wrote with some good news. "No," she said, "We haven't had another baby! Jay has just gotten tenure at Colgate. He's now an associate professor of music and we'll be settling down for awhile in Hamilton, N.Y., with our three children, Joey 6, Gregory 3 1/2, and Cynthia 2 1/2." Jay's new book, The Broadway Musical, will be published shortly by Oxford University Press, and he will lead a study group from Colgate to Venice in the fall.

Michael Zischke is co-author of a new book, Land-Use Initiatives and Referenda inCalifornia. Designed as a legal and planning reference, the book covers the history of land-use initiatives and analyzes statutes and court decisions on the topic. Mike has been an attorney with the Walnut Creek, Calif., firm of McCutchen, Doyle, Brown and Enersen since 1987, and lectures for the University of California extension program, the State Bar of California, and other organizations.

Arriving in our mailbox nearly three months after it was sent from Singapore was a card announcing the birth of Christina Clayton Pfaff on September 22, 1989. Her proud parents were Paula McLeod '78 and Jamie Pfaff, who, even if neglecting sufficient postage for the announcement to go by air, was coherent enough.to wonder, "Will the baby remember being sung to sleep with Philippine folk songs? Does fluency in Tagalog satisfy the language requirement at Dartmouth? [Undoubtedly!] Christina [at 9 lbs., 1 oz.,] was very large by Asian standards and the doctors were a bit astounded."

Per The New York Times , Diana Taylor was appointed president of M. R. Beal & Company, a securities firm in New York owned by women and members of minority groups. She was one of the founders of the firm in 1988 and succeeds Bernard B. Beal in the presidency. She remains head of investment banking for the firm.

Susan Kastan, now director of development for the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra based in N.Y.C., was in Hanover this winter when Orpheus played at the Hop. Though we saw her but briefly while she was here, she shared with us The New York Times reviews of Steve Rooks's fall dance performances of Martha Graham's choreography. Susan noted that, like the Kastans, Maura Harway, finance director of WNET Channel 13, and her husband, Richard Mark, an attorney, also live in Morningside Heights with their daughter.

In news from the heartland, David Dibbell has recently joined the Midelfort Clinic in Eau Claire, Wis., in the department of plastic and reconstructive surgery. David completed his M.D. and residency at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine.

Back on the homefront, it took a number of encounters with Jim Forcier, whose daughter Caitlin is in our daughter Kaethe's kindergarten class, before we realized he and we were classmates. It's a small world. Jim is a building contractor; in addition to Caitlin, he and his wife, Dion, recently welcomed baby Renee into the world.
