Ted Baehr writes to say all is well with him, his wife, Lili, and children Peirce, Jamie, Robby, and Evelyn. Peirce just starred in an ABC movie, "A Son's Promise" shown March 5. He played the second youngest brother. Jamie has also done some radio and TV work. Ted keeps busy publishing "Movieguide: A Biblical Guide to Movies and Entertainment."
Bill Yellowtail proudly stands as the only politician in the West without a telephone. Elected in 1984, Bill is the first Crow indian elected to the Montana state senate and works diligently to protect the environment and the few remaining family farms and ranches. Bill himself is a rancher and has been hit hard by the recent drought and the country's turning away from beef. He supplements his income by working as a flyfishing outfitter on the Bighorn River and a tour guide of the Crow reservation and Custer Battlefield National Monument. Bill and wife, Maggie Carlson, hope to turn their home into a successful working guest ranch.
Bill believes that the survival of his way of life depends on ranchers working together—but they are an independent breed who believe in "getting along on your own." Although it would be easier to sell the land for condos, Bill says that the quality of life is more important than money. As his mother Jane says, "Ranching is a wonderful way to live and a poor way to make a living."
Take care and write.
