Dave Boyle has been appointed President and chief executive officer of the Kahlua Group, the worldwide marketer of Kahlua Liqueur. I am going to skip Dave's corporate resume and go right to a story he told Dick Glovsky (yes, him again!). Dave's office is next to Universal Studios and while at lunch in a nearby restaurant, he noticed the man at the next table had cut a hole in his newspaper and seemed to be staring at him through it. Dave didn't pay too much attention to him, this being California and all. A short time later, this same man, posing as a waiter, delivered extra baskets of bread to the table. At this point, Dave recognized Steve Adams. According to Dave, "some people never change."
The final wrap-up from Glovsky's Alumni Fund telephoning finds Jon Swenson (which is a neat trick all by itself) working as a consultant to a company that distributes European footwear and apparel. Swede is also teaching a course in managerial communications in the MBA program at Seattle-Pacific University.
Gunnard Johnston is the director of the Unification Church in Manchester, N.H., and has been a church member for 15 years. The church has recently purchased a house in Grafton, down the road a piece from Hanover. This is its first training center in New England and will serve as a place for retreats, seminars and worship services. Gunnard said he would like to be involved in some capacity in recruiting new members at Dartmouth and currently has an informal association with 20 or 30 students. He also plans to recruit at other New Hampshire colleges. He hopes that the Grafton training center will help educate people about the church and dispel the negative image that many people have.
Once again, a reminder that the pregame party for the Yale game is across from Topliff Hall on Saturday, October 13. There will be a class meeting (often the highlight of the weekend) at 10:30 a.m. in 212 Dartmouth Hall and a reception after the game in the Zimmerman Lounge at the Blunt Alumni Center with the classes of '67 and '68.
Take care and write.
