This week I argued a case in front of the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. This was a new twist for me because it was the government who appealed the decision of the lower court, not me. The government thinks 20 years (not five) without parole is an appropriate sentence for my client who they also accused of being an "incompetent burglar." I wonder what they would have asked for had he been a competent one.

Tim Baker reports that he has been living in the Freeport, Maine, area for approximately 12 years and is currently working in Portland, Maine. Tim is the controller for New England Cablevision, a 50,000 subscriber cable TV company which operates systems in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. For the past years Tim has also been a model for outdoor clothing and sporting goods for L.L. Bean in Freeport. Tim ana his wife, Lynn, are enjoying their first child, Chase Norman, who was born in August 1989. Tim and Lynn look forward to spring and sailboat racing activities in Casco Bay. They also plan to work on interior construction of their summer cottage on Bustins Island, Casco Bay.

Meg Winthrop reports that a local producer spotted her during a promo for her latest country music album and thinks she will be perfect for one of the national "good morning" news shows. She has great "happy talk" talent, and can sport a blonde wig, no problem. Congratulations, Meg.

Also congratulations to Tom Van Ben-schote, who was promoted to national sales manager for WBAL in Baltimore, Md.

Scott Lewellen and his wife, Brenda, celebrate the birth of twin sons, Beck and Todd. Their daughter Carrie is 11. Scott continues to teach secondary high school earth science and environmental science. Brenda is presently taking a reprieve from her medical laboratory job to be at home with the children. They live in Bemus Point, N.Y.

Bert Hubinger writes from Oakland, Calif., that for five years he has worked as an advertising copywriter for California Triple A. Bert also pursues his interests in sailing, poetry, and an historical novel about New England ship captains around 1800. Good to hear from you, Bert.
