It is March 15—beware of the ides of March —as I scurry around trying to write this column while trying to prepare for my murder trial on Monday. I had a great victory two weeks ago with a civil rights case, but victories are short lived and I am always on the way to the next challenge. There are never any dull moments in the life of a criminal lawyer.
The Dartmouth Club of Georgia had a great program on February 25 called "Responsible Journalism on College Campuses." The program featured David R. Boldt '63, editor of the editorial page of the Philadelphia Inquirer; Harmeet Dhillon '89, editor-in-chief of the Dartmouth Review; Emily Hill '90, president of Common Sense; Edward Kimbrell, professor of Journalism in Middle Tennessee State University, School of Mass Communications; and Mike Reynolds '90, editor-in-chief of The Dartmouth. Gregory Prince '63 A, an adjunct associate professor of history and assistant dean of the faculty at Dartmouth, was moderator. We had a great turnout and the event was informative and revealing. Tom Johnson was there, as were Rick Klupchack, Dave Cranshaw, Perry Ballard, and a host of others. The discussion was enlightening and I came to the conclusion that it is the alumni who have overreacted to the situation at Dartmouth. It seems that the students are rather neutral about the whole thing and have simply accepted controversy as part of their Dartmouth experience. At any rate, the presentation was hosted by Tom Johnson and he did a great job.
