This past June 5 the class lost another good man. Wyman Vaughan died after a lengthy illness, in Storrs, Conn.', where he had been a professor at the University of Connecticut. (An obituary in a subsequent issue.)

We had a fine letter from Bob Nuffort from his home at Cape Coral, Fla. Bob and wife Miriam do a lot of sailboat racing, and he reports that they just took first place in the seven-race Spring Series at the Cape Coral Sailing Club. In May, they had a good trip to Williamsburg, Va., to visit a granddaughter who is a freshman at William and Mary and a member of the women's golf team. Her brother, a senior at Stanford and a member of the Cardinals' golf team, was at the time of Bob's note in an NCAA qualifying tournament in New Mexico. Since the NCAAs were held in Tampa in early June, Bob expected to be on hand if Stanford was represented. Stay tuned for our next!

Don Sayia writes that he spent a good winter in Punto Gorda, Fla., and was just about to return to New Jersey when he had to submit to bypass surgery at Southwest Medical Center, in Fort Myers. He recommends the facility highly. Don was scheduled to make it back north June 1.

Dick Brooks has made a marvelous recovery from a stroke and is now back at work painting. With his eldest daughter Ginny Dingman, of Phoenix, Ariz., also a painter, he was on a swing through the Maine coast in July where the two were painting up a storm. Their first overnight stop was with Betsy Wyman-Emmons in Portsmouth N.H. Math and I were privileged to dine with them, Dusty and Happy Rohde, and Jim Powers, as Betsy's guest.

According to Dartmouth Currents, the Office of Residential Life received a Model Program Award from the American College Personnel Association for its Class of 1939 Senior Scholars Program. The Scholarships proposed by our President Bert MacMannis, and embraced by the executive committee, was established last fall to provide grants to students in residence who are writing senior theses. This year 13 seniors received grants, and it has proven so successful that funding has been approved for the next academic year. Another unique success for the class, not only in proposing such an effort, but for underwriting it.

And finally, will we see you at the minireunion over the weekend of September 15?
