A bumper crop of class of '86 news! Praise be to Jennifer Botzow Botzo Jorns, Bill Marozas, Rachel Fineberg, and Jennifer Key for taking the time to scribble a note. Here's what they have to report:
Most engagements end in church, but Ellen LeStourgeon's began there (which is very surprising if you know how seldom Ellen sits in a pew). Ellen was minding her own business during Easter mass when the fellow sitting next to her woke her from her sermon-induced snooze, thrust a ring into her paw, and proposed marriage. And she said yes! All this during the middle of the service. Fortunately the rest of the congregation was a bit more pious so they were too absorbed in the sermon to notice Ellen and her fiance's transaction.
Ellen will marry Gerard Lawless in December. They met at the Harvard Business School, from which they graduated in June. In September Ellen will begin working in London for Booz, Allen & Hamilton, the consulting firm; Gerard will work for Goldman Sachs.
An all-'86 relationship has been blossoming since late fall. In fact, ever since freshman week Bill Marozas has been plotting his strategy regarding Leslie Paulson. His patient, long-term approach seems to be working. Dr. Paulson recently graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School and moved to Chicago to begin her residency. Bill is too modest to mention anything about himself, but I believe that he is working for the First National Bank of Chicago, so Leslie's move to the Windy City put a smile on his face.
Jennifer Botzow Botzojorns may have created a concept for a new TV game show. When she and her new husband, Lars Jorrens Botzorjorns '83, filled out their marriage license, they couldn't decide what to put on the certificate. Should their family name be Botzow (her maiden name), Jorrens (his name), Botzow-Jorrens, Jorrens Botzow, or something else (such as Wannaparty or Jones). They opted to create a hybrid name that presents aspects of each family name: Botzojorns is the result. Lars is a physicist at UVM, and Jennifer teaches at a private school in Burlington. They were expecting a child in May.
Amy Tchao married Michael Morrison (Princeton '84). On April 2 they had a baby boy, Harold, who weighed 8 lbs. 14 oz.
Alex Tait will enter Harvard Business School this fall. Martin Kryska works in Orlando for a company which engineers skateboard parks. Gary Clark hiked the Continental Divide this summer. Marcel Gauthier was teaching English and French at a small school in California, but now is teaching drama in Nice, France. Lelia Mellen is engaged to Mark Utter-Smith (Harvard '86?). She is working in Ann Arbor for the LaLeche League ana Planned Parenthood. Paul Kotz is getting his doctorate in computer programming at Duke.
Rachel Fineberg and Tim Johnson graduated from Indiana University Medical School last May (two more class of '86 doctors!). Rachel will be starting a radiology residency at Washington University in St. Louis. Tim's residency will be in internal medicine at UVM.
Jennifer Key and Mary Francis Spatola are both second-year students at George Washington Law School, and both are members of the Journal of International Law & Economics. Jennifer reports that Marian Halliday married Mark Lewis in June 1988. Marian is a second-year student at the University of Virginia School of Law.
Bob Rech worked in Tokyo for six months doing M&A work for the Sumitomo Bank. Matt Landa is in his first year of business school at Stanford. He's spending the summer doing corporate finance work for Morgan Stanley in N.Y.C. Sam Zates finished his first year of business school at Kellogg (Northwestern University). He's working for American Express this summer. Tucker Stephens is trading for his own account at the Chicago Board of Options Exchange.
