Considering myself an expert on mixed nuts, I recendy bought a can of Sweet Life Mixed Nuts because Joel Levitt is president of the company. They are the best I have ever tasted! Much better than the two national brands. Their other products are equally fine. Congratulations Joel and Co.!
Not much news from the troops in the field this summer (I'm writing this in early August), but several happy galas brought some of the sistren and brethren together:
I was privileged to assist in two marvelous weddings. The first, on July 20 at Kennebunkport's St. Anne's Episcopal Church, was that of Walter Wiewell and beautiful Linda Pinkham, daughter of Betsy andGordon. Among the guests were Class President jacques Harlow, just off the tennis courts of Ridgewood, N.J.; Treasurer Ben Shaverand Joy, fresh off their seven boats moored near Annapolis at Arnold, Md.; Tree Coordinator Newc Eldridge and Sally, in from Newport, N.H.; and the Hanover contingent: Lenand Sue Matless, David and Karen Taylor,Ed and Marlene Tuck, and Fizz and MargiePyne, there to get some pointers for their own wedding two weeks later.
Sure enough, on August 3 they did the deed (and none too soon, according to many!). Another beautiful bride, and the groom as handsome as he can get. The ceremony was in the historic (1784) Congregational Church in Amherst, N.H., where the issue of the separation of Church and State was first resolved. In addition to the Hanover crowd (who never miss a party) were Nev and Randi Chamberlain, Frank and Joanne Dickinson, DanFeatherstone, Class Chairman joel Levitt and Ruth, Frank Harrington, Jack and RachelNewkirk, Andy and Mary Oliver, and Geneand Carol Ulrich. Fizz and Margie left for a long trip of hiking and boating on and around the islands near Bali.
I'm told that in between the two weddings Sally and Newc hosted a gathering at their Summer home on Lake Sunapee. There was magnificent full-moonlight dancing on the water while Newc and Matchless (sic) took the frolickers boating. Newc has a beautiful, restored 1938 mahogany Chris Craft. In addition to some of those seen at the two weddings were David and Lee Hitchcock, Boband Pinky Lindell, and Doug and MeredithSmith. The Olivers, by the way, are farming in Lansing, N.Y. (near Utica), and Andy teaches between harvesting and planting.
John and Jean Chapman would love to host you at their End-O-Main Bed and Breakfast, 161 Main St., North Kingston, RI 02852, 401/294-4324. They have a new home on Siesta Key, Fla. John Norton is actively retired, with a new hip. Per-Jan Ranhoff retired in June after 37 years at Pomfret School. He and Anne are traveling the U.S.
I am sad that '50 has once again finished last in Group IV (Classes '43-'50) in giving to the Alumni Fund. We achieved Only 90.5 percent of our objective, while '43 and '48 each raised over 105 percent. '44 also made more than its goal. I wonder why we don't do better?
