Dr. Charles "Stormy" Mayo has produced and presented his slide lecture, "Great Whales of Cape Cod," as part of the effort to protect endangered species in the seas. Dr. Mayo, a tenth-generation Cape Cod resident who hails from a family steeped in the fishing tradition, is a co-founder and director of research at the Center for Coastal Studies. He is internationally known for his work with the great whales of the North Atlantic and has helped establish the center's whale rescue team. You may have noticed him when he was named the "Person of the Week" by AEC Nightly News last year.
Jon Greene telephoned recently to comment on this column and he has sent out a call for news from or about Jim Howe and Pete Sapione If anyone knows of these two gentlemen, let us know. Perhaps we will hear from Jim and Pete themselves.
I just found my class dues notice in my stack of class notes information. Steve Waterhouse reminds us that we have kept the lid on costs, the class is in the black, and die magazine which you now hold has been voted "the BEST in the country" in higher education. Send me a note, get your name in this column, and make it worth the reasonable dues. No news can be bad news.
Dick Durrance sent me a postcard with a beautiful photo of a sunset off the coast of Maine, taken by one Richard Durrance II, with a note that informs us that "the mountains won. I am moving back to Aspen." Dick and two other classmates, De Witt Jones and Richard Joseph, were recently honored at the Lincoln Center in New York City at the inaugural awarding of the Presidential Medal for Outstanding Achievement and Leadership. Congratulations to all three of you.
