"The Roads Lead On" for all of us. We graduated from Dartmouth almost 30 years ago, and some of us explored roads which made us turn back. We found new routes and followed them, sometimes learning that we had made a mistake. As we prepare for our 30th Reunion, June 15-18, many of us are able to look back with satisfaction on the roads we have taken. Let's get together in Hanover in a few months to compare notes and renew some great friendships. It will also be a wonderful opportunity to make some new acquaintances. See you there!
We had a fantastic mini-reunion in October, highlighted by beautiful weather, a magnificent bonfire, a victory over Yale, and the renewal of old friendships. If you had been there it would have been even better. Ted andAnn Atkinson were there with their daughter Emily (her twin, Andrea, was elsewhere). Ted is still exploding with joy over the achieve ments of his children. As co-chair of special activities for the 30th, he promises surprises and fun for all of us. Bob Blake was smiling even after he left the tennis courts at Pierce's Lodge. His better half, Sharon, encouraged a few of us to take in the equestrian show on Saturday morning. Fantastic!
Bob and French McConnaughey drove up from Virginia to enjoy another weekend in Hanover. Their daughter Scotty was checking out the campus since she hopes to join the class of 1999. Brian Walsh was there to celebrate with his significant other, Linda Morgan. When I asked Brian to explain why he plans to come to the 30th Reunion, he responded this way: "The older I get, the more I realize what a great group of people joined me (at Dartmouth). As reunions and mini-reunions have come and gone, I've enjoyed keeping in touch with old friends. More powerful to me have been the connections I've made with people I never knew while we were undergraduates." Brian has said what so many of us have felt as we have returned to reunions. We hope that many of you will share the experience.
Carl and Mimi Boe took the trip from their new home overlooking the Hudson River. They joined in the conversation, filled us in on recent happenings, and smiled often. That's the kind of weekend we had. Don and JanBoardman traveled from Virginia to make connections again. Don is our reunion-giving chairman and he encourages all of us to say "Sure, how much do you want?" when we get the call to join in the effort to support Dartmouth.
Jim and Debbie Griffiths were the cochairs of the mini-reunion, extending their winning streak of great reunions. They are the co-chairs of the 30th as they go for the Big One. Bet on this one!
Several classmates were there with their Dartmouth sons and daughters. Richard andElizabeth Bernstein were joined by their son Nicholas '95. Dick and Jean Bordeau were with their son Jon '96. Rich and WendyFinnerty were celebrating with Pam '97. Hugh and Pam McGee were joined by their son Chris '96. Tom and Jane Meacham came all the way from Alaska to be with son Scott '95. Art and Reni Yasuda flew in from California to join with Marc '98. Your class president and his first lady, Allen and JudyZern, were celebrating twice as much with Peter '95 and Carolyn '97.
I am out of space and time. Check this column next issue for more about the minireunion of last October and the 30th Reunion next June. In the meantime, make your plans, make your hotel reservations. This winter will soon be gone and things will start to turn very GREEN.
