All lawyers in Georgia have to obtain continuing legal education credits to keep their license to practice current. This year a group of us decided to get current in insurance law, mainly because the course was being held at the Ritz Carlton on Amelia Island, Florida. The cheerful, well-tailored staff at the Ritz was not quite ready for over-worked, haggard lawyers, sleepy-eyed and barefoot. Well, it's the beach isn't it? Anyway, we all "had a nice day" and learned everything you ever wanted to know about insurance.

Norwell Coquillard, my most international classmate, reports that he assumes the position of country manager for Japan for Cargill Inc. He also celebrates the arrival of his son Andre Jin, born in Seoul, Korea. Norwell's wife, Dong Su, has an extremely successful fashion business in Korea.

Tom Reilly, who had previously been with ESPN in production, has relocated to California to work with Southern California's regional cable sports channel, Prime Ticket, which holds the broadcast rights to the Kings, the Lakers, and the Dodgers. The channel also covers some Pac Ten, Big West, and other regional action in the Southland. Tom produces Prime Ticket's nightly sports information show, "Press Box." He works in Century City, and they plan to move to Agoura Hills. They have two children, Lauren 6 and Spencer 3.

Mike Knapp is presently working for The Travelers in the data processing side of their investments division. Mike's wife, Sharon, has her own wallpaper business in the Hartford area, and she stays busy painting and upholstering.

Randall Von Wedel has an environmental biotechnology consulting business and has moved to Point Richmond, Calif.

A fellow Middle Georgian is Tom Lloyd, who lives in Metter, Ga., very close to Macon. Tom was recently granted tenure and promoted to associate professor at Georgia Southern University, where he teaches Victorian literature. His wife, Leigh Vasquez,is the daughter of a medical school professor in Macon and is a manager with the Wal-Mart Corporation. Metter, like Macon, has a very beautiful historic district and they are presently restoring a late Victorian-era house.

Finally, Pete Schlachter reports that he has negotiated a contract for management at GM and is currently assigned in materials management implementing the "pull" system.

That's it for this column. See you at the World Series.
