Your secretary has learned roundaboutly that modest Alex McKenzie and Barbie went to New York last summer, where Alex received from the Radio Club of America its distinguished Pioneer Citation. For 40 years he has been a member of that elite invitation-only organization. The citation paid tribute to his contributions to the development of LORAN, the long-range navigation system so important during World War II. Incidentally, Alex is the last surviving member of a team that was in the Mt. Washington observatory on April 12, 1934, when the wind blew at 234 m.p.h., the strongest winds ever recorded on Earth.

"Ed doesn't know he's going to be 80," wrote wife Vera in her invitation to a weekend of festivities honoring Ed Marks. "There'll be good friends, food, music, dancing, tennis, scrabble, croquet, and other frivolities." Something for everyone, April 20-21. That's an invitation hard to turn down, and I regretted having to. Ed, did it wear you out?

Guys and dolls, if our indefatigable Head Agent Milt Alpert or one of his stalwarts hasn't been in touch with you, it's a probable twelve to seven that the College has lost your address. Send that check. Make that pledge. Help Dartmouth grow even as she once contributed to your own education. By the way, did you know that Milt and Lil celebrated his 80th and their 50th by taking the kids and grands (including Seth '93) to Israel last summer? "The kids really learned, saw, heard, and felt their roots," said Milt.

Grow Old Along with Me Dept. This upbeat word form Cal Fisher: "On January 28 at high noon at the Old Heidelberg Inn, Colorado Springs, a mini-reunion took place. Present were Ned Disque and H. CalvinFisher, M.D. After questioning, it became apparent that my old friend Ned, formerly of the Daily Dartmouth, had spent much of his life (I think) in the Department of Journalism, lowa State University." (That's close, Cal. How's the brew at the Old Heidelberg?)

"We talked about the great things WhipWalser, Bob Ackerberg, and you are doing, with kudos up and around. In spite of our longevity, due to clean living, neither of us carried a cane, and there was much conversation with the women at the next table." (!) Grantham, NH 03753-0286
