It's almost peak wedding season, so let's open a letter from Pete Vorbrich, one of the latest '88s to get engaged. Pete is in the final days of law school at the University of Michigan, and he's already accepted a job at the Minneapolis firm of Faegre and Benson.

In October Pete will marry a fellow law student, Alary Sue .Martin, an '88 from Albion (Mich.) College, and she'll work in St. Paul. I Pretty convenient, eh? Pete brings news from many quarters: Paul Steinwald is looking at residency programs as he finishes up at Tulane Medical School; Joe Laferrera is now in law school at Boston University; Jim Rooney is completing his education at Boston College Law and will work in Washington, D.C., for the same firm that currently employs JeffSingdahlsen. Ed Sim will finish at Michigan Law with Pete this spring and will work for a D.C. firm that specializes in lobbying, and Gerry DeBiasi will enter Harvard Business School this fall. Lasdy, another wedding report from Mr. Vorbrich: John McGeachie is engaged and will marry next month, during the high season.

That wacky Cameroon Postal Service (or maybe it was the equally nutty New Hampshire unit) didn't do Kathy Beams any favors; her letter to me, requesting addresses of '88s in the Pacific Rim, arrived after the new year despite what appears to be an October 1990 postmark Kathy is probably now finished with her travels. She w as working with the Peace Corps in Cameroon, then she was going home via Asia and Hawaii. Kathy will start med school at the University of Massachusetts in August, joining Breena Welch and Val Robins, both now through two years there.

Julia Fulwyler joins the growing list of people spurred to write by the absence of a column a few issues back. She claims she "never knows" the people in the column, but she also knows why. "My friends are usually the unemployed types or ski bums." Here's a rundown of Julia's friends, some of whom don't fit the mold:

Kirsti Wilson coached skiing in Telluride, Colo., all winter. Lisa Thomas is "a complete star" at Vermont med school and "aces all her exams ... for a woman who can't understand how a vacuum cleaner works, that's pretty good!" Julia editorializes. Mich Dupre lives in North Carolina but occasionally heads home to Seven Springs, Pa., to check on a bottled water business she's started there. ToveStigum is married to Jon Bigelow '87, and Heidi Stowell is married to Richard Nichols '89, and all four of them are teaching at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, N.H.; CarolStudler is back in her New York home after traveling through Nepal and Thailand ("she rode elephants and rafted and everything," Julia wrote). Elisa Murray works in Boston, but plans to go for a joint J.D. M.B.A. next year at Harvard. Kelly Mortell lives in Seatde and works for Eddie Bauer. And, lastly, Steve Brunner is planning to open a Chevrolet repair shop. The location is not specified by Julia, and I drive a Chevrolet, so I'm pretty intrigued.

Whew! After that, you're probably wondering, "What does Julia do?" She is finishing her first year of law school at Berkeley and wavering between the two California moods: extreme relaxation and the kind of stress that inspires drive-by shootings. Let's hope she settles on the former.

Next month: the letters I didn't get to despite promising you last month. Hey, it keeps you coming back, right?
