84 In case you missed my last column or chose not to read it, I will begin by reminding you to save the weekend of June 18-20, 1993, for our Tenth Reunion. Also, our class will sponsor a mini-reunion tent with the '82s and '83s during the Harvard Dartmouth football game on Saturday, October 31. Call Tenth Reunion Czar LeighMiller Garry at (914) 833-1601 for more info or to volunteer your time.
The other day I received a thick, gray envelope in the mail from John Nuveen & Cos. Inc. Figuring it was either an invitation for an already pre-approved line of credit or a subscription to a stock-picking service, I was about to heave it unopened into the trash when my curiosity got the better of me. So I ripped it open to find an article clipped from the Los Angeles Post (sic) with the headlines, "Gordon says, 'I'll keep my name'/Chow retaliates, 'I won't wear a wedding band. The body of the article and the accompanying note explained that Derek Chow and Jan Gordon would tie the knot in September at a rural camp in western Connecticut. Derek, as the envelope indicated, works for Nuveen, "an investment bank specializing in public finance and municipal underwriting" in Los Angeles. Jan "just graduated with an M.F.A. from USC Film School and is on her way to fame and riches as a director/producer of feature-length films." Stay tuned for a report on the wedding.
Meanwhile, Class President Karen Francis writes, "have moved on to a new adventure in Music City, U.S.A. Nashville, Tenn. Accepted a fantastic job as director of marketing at Empire Berol, a manufacturer of writing instruments. I'm building a great big oP southern estate so everyone is welcome to visit—even if only here on an American Airlines stopover!"
I also heard from Kathy MarshallDieKroeger, who added a second son, Daniel, to her growing family on May 25. Despite claims that she is "out of touch with Dartmouth friends," Kathy informed me that Chr issyBurnley Bucklin spent the summer on assignment with McKinsey in Amsterdam and that Bev Bradway and Bonner Kyle got married in May, though not to each other, which really would have been newsworthy. I expect to have a follow up on both events, as well as the recent marriage of Tom Lubin, in upcoming columns.
Lastly, I am proud to report that both JimMoulton and wife Serena represented our country in the Olympics in Barcelona in various rowing events. Jim's selection was something of a miracle since, after a winter of sickness, he narrowly missed in his attempt to make the U.S. sculling team. However, he was able to regroup and made the sweeps team as an alternative. To appreciate this feat, understand that in sculling, which Jim has been practicing for over a decade, the rower pulls two oars. In sweeps, the rower pulls one. Jim had not rowed sweeps since graduating from Dartmouth, and in two weeks was able to retool his stroke enough to make the team! Now, if only I could have the same success retooling my golf swing. Till next we talk.
