Warren and Jeanne Daniell did not leave Hanover this winter as usual for Sanibel Island, Fla. They have moved into Kendal at Hanover, the recendy constructed continuing healthcare retirement community three miles north of Baker Library. Kendal has 248 apartments, 85 percent presently occupied. Good luck and happiness to Warren and Jeanne at their new address: Kendal at Hanover, Apt. 207, 80 Lyme Road, Hanover, NH 03755.
As Kendal neighbors the Daniells have Ort Hicks '21 and his wife Lois living in apartment 105, hence this report that Ort in mid-October was hospitalized with a broken leg and as of early November is recovering in the Kendal health center. Ort's many distinctions and his outstanding Dartmouth loyalty include an extraordinary relationship with the class of 1922. In autumn 1918, World War I, our '22 freshman class had 393 boys, including 107 under age 18 who were ineligible to enlist in the army. These 107 boys, plus a few others, voluntarily became Company I of the Student Army Training Corps. The army provided guns and uniforms, but we paid our own tuition, food, and lodging as we endured the privilege of being unpaid U.S. soldiers. Immature, naive, rustic, but proud of ourselves, happy to be alive and at Dartmouth. And sophomore Ort Hicks, one year out of Shattuck Academy in Fairbault, Minn., was our inspirational commanding officer. That's why we hope Ort and Lois will join 1922 at our 70th Reunion, June 12-14, 1992 in Hanover.
