As we write these notes we are at Vero Beach, Fla., where we ran into Endy and Jeannie Smith. Endy told us that he was headed over to the West Coast. Since he was expecting to spend some time in the St. Pete area, on February 7 he called Bun Cotton, a teammate on Dartmouth's golf team of yesteryear. What he heard on the phone was that Bun had died the day before his call, at St. Anthony's Hospital of an illness not specified. (Obit in a later issue).

We have been trying to make connections with Frank Perry since arriving in Florida but we have yet to eye-ball one another. From November until May Frank is in Vero where he oversees his very smart shop, The Cosmetique, which, as you might imagine, sells cosmetics, as well as costume jewelry and other feminine beautifiers. We've been in the shop, and it is first-class with a splendid odor and some very cool and lovely looking salesgirls in a very posh setting. When not in Florida, Frank is in Europe "buying" in June, or in Texas, which has been home for over thirty years. Frank has spent the better part of his life in retail with Dillards, Fort Worth's leading department store.

We thought we were going to have lunch with Jack Treadway at John's Island as a guest of Jack's elder brother Dick. But Jack couldn't make it. He has had the misfortune of suffering two heart attacks this past fall, but he has responded well in the recovery. We were treated to some pictures of Louise and Jack's 50th wedding anniversary at Mohunk House, the site of their honeymoon. They were surrounded by every member of their immediate family, children and grands. Jack has been courageously batding Parkinson's disease for some time, but his spirit is indomitable.

Dusty Rohde came down to his place in Mariner Sands, Stuart, Fla., after joining with his large and growing family (which includes one great-grandson) in February at a private service to mark the passing of his wife, Happy. He paid us a visit in Vero.

A note from Bob Howe informs us that he and Shirley are just finishing a house at Mountain Lake, Va., as a haven to escape the heat of Jackonsville, Fla., summer. He also reports that Shirley had just taken her first flight with him in early March and survived! We're not sure who was at the controls of said flight, but presume it was Bob.

Betsy Wyman-Emmons held her annual party in her lovely apartment in Naples on Sunday, March 1. It will either be reported in our next column or in the more timely '39 Out.

Until our next, have a good spring.
