27 Our 65th Reunion was attended by 13 classmates, five wives, seven widows, and four children. A pre-reunion dinner at the Norwich Inn was enjoyed by the BobLongs, Stu Ensingers, Rog Bury, TomAnglem, and Dow Mills. The Strongs,Rintels, Tom Gillespie, Lee Gore, PaulHannah, Hank Murray, and Bill Ward checked in at the Lodge on Friday.
Tom and Dow attended the Dartmouth Medical School luncheon. Dean Andy Wallace announced that Dr. C. Everett Koop '37, former U.S. Surgeon General, had joined the faculty to help increase the number of Dartmouth pre-meds entering the medical school.
At our Friday evening dinner we had Angus and Elizabeth Russell from Bequests & Trusts and the Alumni Fund, respectively, as guests. Following the reception at the President's house, we enjoyed a beautiful concert sung by the Dartmouth Glee Club and Chamber Singers in Spaulding Auditorium. Saturday's memorial service in St. Thomas Episcopal Church was written by Rev. ChuckBrewster and delivered in sequence by Bob Long, Chuck Baker, and Dow Mills. The widows present, Ruth Baker, EllieBlanchard, Madeline Fowler, PegFunkhouser, Finny Ham, Ethel Loeb, and Allice Wormser were moved by the ceremony. At our class meeting, the present officers were elected for five years. No plans were made for a fall mini-reunion. The luncheon for the classes of '22, '27, and '42 was addressed by President Freedman. At our class dinner in Thayer Hall, Mike Choukas '51, director of Alumni Affairs, answered questions of concern to those present.
Class Officers Weekend May 8-9 in Hanover was attended by President Rog Bury, News Letter Editor Paul Hannah, Assistant Bequest Chairman Peg Funkhouser, and Secretary Dow Mills. A panel of five seniors gave us their views on the variety and richness of their experiences of student life at Dartmouth. Another panel dealt with recruiting and retaining faculty. Reports on the Alumni Fund and Campaign to Excel were positive. Our impression was that the College is progressing favorably, the students are satisfied with their experience, and the faculty is of excellent caliber. We report the deaths of Bob Bliss,Gus Cummings, Don Megathlin, Lyn andWalter Smith, and Ernest Field. Obituary notices will appear in future issues of the Alumni Magazine.
