49 For those in the Northeast and the Midwest I can only hope that warm weather has arrived to stay awhile by the time you get this, since the spring was so cool. As Leigh and I monitored those regions from the South it seemed we should put off a return to the North until the Fourth of July, as Spring seemed to skip the areas this year.

Much to my disappointment, the postcard attempt in the magazine did not flood my desk with news, so once again we search for it I noticed in the 1950 column that they are already touting the reunion in 1994, when they will reune with us. So as you receive this summer issue it will be less than two years until the '49ers will be attending our 45th. Knowing how far all of us are now planning ahead for trips, you might appreciate this reminder.

Paul Woodberry and firm are beginning a new project not far from us in Tampa called Meadow Pointe. Unfortunately Leigh and I could not take up Paul's kind invitation to attend a B.F. Enterprises meeting held in May here in Tampa. Paul is vice chairman of the firm. He told me that his old Tick roommate Spike Smith (the one whose rug harbored moths that ate my wool bathrobe) visited him in Lompoc, Calif., in February. This was no doubt a chance to escape the cold North.

Paul is also a full chairman he is in charge of the Pick Axe Award Committee, and as such is looking for nominations for this prestigious '49er award. Would you please send suggestions to him at Celite Corporation, P.O. Box 519, Lompoc, CA 93438. I would send him my name, but my golf handicap isn't low enough yet.

One of the brave souls to send in a postcard was Dr. Einar F. Grell, who did a masterful job of updating on the 3x5 card. See if you don't agree, as he wrote, "Eight children all grown up and out of the house. I am retired now and spend most of my time staying alive and fishing. I am now in pursuit of my sixth International Game Fishing Association World Record, having received light tackle records or world records in weakfish, fluke, and flounder. Spend much of my time in the British Virgin Islands studying reef fish in Anegada, Virgin Gorda, and Tortola. My wife, Barbara, is a legal eagle and is obsessed with product liability and medical malpractice. I can't believe we have a lousy horseshoe player acting as President." The only thing left out of this news was the date the dog died.
