A reunion is a great way for a new secretary to start, and my only regret is that time did not permit me to talk with every one in attendance. But here goes.

Bill and Joce Yates arrived in a 1989 blue Cadillac with green Massachusetts plates numbered 1949D. This may have helped, as Bill's car remained at a meter in front of the 1949 tent for three days before the meter maid felt obligated to leave a ticket.

Doug arid Grade Parsons spent this past winter in warm climates like St. Barts, St. Thomas, and Mexico, but said there still is no place like Wolfeboro, N.H.

When Bob Schmitz was asked if he was about to retire, he replied that he really enjoyed his work as a controller and with three boys in college this would take far in the future.

Paul Bjorklund, one of the four dentists in our class, continues his practice in his home and stated he really loves his work. No doubt not having to travel to work has lowered the frustation that many of us experienced.

As retirement begins to occur for some classmates, some are beginning to return to the Hanover scene. To name a few: AllenBrooks, John Stearns, Vail Haak, PunchyThomas, and Bob Nutt. Vail, our new class president, is working part-time for the A.B. Gile Insurance Agency. John Stearns, our new Alumni Council representative, is becoming an experienced carpenter as he remodels an older home. Punchy and Doris are finishing a new home across the river in Vermont. Punchy is really enjoying the life as a manager of a large tract of land. Bob is the alumni news editor of DAM and has offered to help your economics-and-Tuck-oriented secretary.

Harry Tanzi, who many of us supported while in residence in Hanover, dropped by the tent and socialized with attendees. One who found this very interesting was BobBarnaby. Harry presented Bob with an old check Bob had drawn that was returned to Harry marked "insufficient funds." Harry agreed to forgive all if Bob would make a contribution of ten times the amount of the check to Dartmouth. One wonders how many more souvenirs like this Harry has.

Gil Nelson certainly had changed his appearance since I last met him. He was sporting a full beard as he attended his first reunion.

Four wives of classmates were at the 40th: Mrs. J. Paul (Catherine) Erwin, Mrs. Edward (Patricia) McNeil, Mrs. E. Charles (Beatrice) Schuetz, and Mrs. Charles D. (Gretchen) Vanderhoof. We are indebted to Gretchen for our class flag.

This is a plug for our new treasurer, BobMuenzberg, who will be trying to collect class dues from every member. Many may not understand why the dues are needed or the fact that last year we just about broke even with our obligations. Our dues pay for a copy of this magazine for every member of the class. Each year the class provides freshman trip scholarships for some who could not afford to go on this trip. And finally a book is purchased for the library in memoriam for deceased '49ers.
