Susan Karol is the physician in charge of the Hunter I Center, a comprehensive breast cancer facility which recently opened in Beverly, Mass. Offering a broad array of services on site, the Center is designed to eliminate the medically ill-advised and emotionally draining time gap which typically occurs between examination and diagnosis. Susan graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin and completed a residency at U-Mass in Worcester. She then became a lieutenant commander with the U.S. Public Health Service on a Navajo reservation in Shiprock, N.M., where she was chief of surgery at a local hospital. After a year as a clinical fellow in surgery at Mass. General, Susan joined Beverly Surgical Associates in 1991. Fr. Gregory Sharkey, S.J., has been named the Michael Coulson Research Fellow in Indology at Oxford. In March he was elected to the governing body of Wolfson College and subsequently was elected to a one year term as chairman of its general meeting.
Inspired by Belinda's success, RickMagnuson has resigned his position as managing director of Merrill Lynch and is now doing roadside interpretations of Dan Quayle. For those of you who don't subscribe to cable TV, Mags performed as a guest of the Democratic National convention in New York.
John Wetenhall recently co-authored IwoJima: Monuments, Memories and the AmericanHero, a book which chronicles the legendary flag-raising. Already hailed as a "riveting" work (Los Angeles Times), John's publication will be of great interest to World War II enthusiasts and general readers alike. Since 1989 John has been curator of painting and sculpture at the Birmingham Museum of Art.
Doug and Annabelle Canning have announced the birth on May 12 of their son John Schaeffer, an eight and a half pound bundle of joy with the unmistakable grin of Curious George, marred only by a small lump of Skoal in his lower jaw. Shman has finally completed his stint in the navy and is heading east to become the director of pediatric urology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
