It's already November, and those of us tough (read: stupid) enough to remain in the Northeast are getting ready for another bitter winter. Last year I found myself subconsciously dealing with the cold by working longer hours. I didn't have much of a life, but I sure was warm and dry.
I recently spoke with Melissa Rich, who is an analyst with Chemical Bank in New York City. Melissa and Jennifer Sandoval, who works for Ogilve Mather advertising, spent Labor Day weekend with Tina Mabley at Tina's home in Southborough, Mass. Tina recently returned from a six-month trip to Costa Rica.
Melissa passed on an exciting yet frightening story about Suzanne Pesce, who is in her second year of med school at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Early in the afternoon on Labor Day, Suzanne biked home along her usual route across a park. When she got off her bike briefly to switch paths, a man approached her, drew a four-inch knife, and demanded that Suzanne give him her bike. When she hesitated, he brought the knife closer to her stomach, and repeated the command. Suzanne let go of the bike, and as the thief peddled away, screamed for help. A passerby managed to trip the bike and the thief fell, dropping his knife as he tumbled. Suzanne picked up the knife but didn't have to use it as the frightened thief ran away. Thankfully,
I'm sure that classmates would love to hear about any other acts o bravery, so feel free to write and let me know of your own or someone else's heroic day in the park.
On a less dramatic note, Anna Adachi writes that she was in Europe last spring and visited Vania Grandi in Rome, where Vania was working for the Asociated Press. After a summer at home in Banff, Alberta, Vania has returned to Italy. Aina is now an associate at Resource Systems Group, an environmental consulting firmin Norwich, Vt.

Vicki Kamberos works at an actuarial firm in Chicago. Sean Andrsh is studying waterresource administratior in Arizona. And SueHealey spent the sumrrer bike racing in Colorado with the Zinn Alalfas team.
Andrew Tolson wr.tes from New York City, where he recently attended the wedding of Tony Moody and Kate Aiken. Andrew, who works on the equity trading floor at Merrill Lynch, reported tlat the wedding was amazing.
I received a letter from Christiane Pein, who lives nearby in Canbridge and is about to start her second year in the architecture master's program at MIT. Christiane spent the summer in Pakistan studying Islamic architecture, but she had to leave after six weeks due to a cholera epidenic. She reports that Maria Veniard just started law school at Georgetown.
If my column appears brief this month, it's because my mail from classmates is slowing drastically. If this doesnt change, I may have to start naming names.
Keep in touch, and tike care.
