Since our last we have attended the fall mini in Hanover, where we learned of the death of HalMacGilpin on September 8, and the long-delayed word that George Walker had died on February 10, 1991. (Obits in this or a later issue)

As a highlight of the reunion our cracker- jack class agent, Jim Comer, was properly recognized as the 1939 Man of the Year at a suitable ceremony at the Kaisers’.

It was voted that editor Herb Mattlage would send the new ’39 Directory by first- class mail. If you haven’t received it be sure to contact him at 53 -1/2 Lyme Rd., Hanover, NH 03755-1214 for your copy.

It is of more than passing interest that Bill Tomkins, our major gift chair for the 55th, announced a goal of $3 01,93 9 for our reunion gift, which boils down to a suggested triple bite. Bill puts his money where his mouth is by announcing that he will give $5O to the Alumni Fund and $5O to the ’39 Scholarship Fund for each person who triples his gift, gives for the first time, or lybunts.

Bill McCarthy and Herb Hirschland, our chairmen for the 55 th, asked us to empha- size the importance of making your June 13 reunion plans known to the committee so they can set up the proper reunion fee well in advance.

Skip Morse writes that he couldn’t make the mini because of an important appointment “attending a granddaughter,” but that he and Penny plan to make the 55th onjune 13. Skip says they had a pleasant visit with Bud Lit- tle in Helena, Mont., but did not make con- tact with Shag Hatch in Billings during their trip out to the Big Sky country.

Tom Brooks was on hand from nearby Grandtam despite the sad fact that he had lost his wife, Susan, only two weeks earlier.

We received a crumpled and belated green card from Mugsy Bly stamped by the U.S. Mail, “damaged in handling by the postal ser- vice,” something of a redundancy. Nonethe- less, we could read the following: “Kent Hill School and Hebron Academy, two prep schools in Maine, are having their 1 OOth-year football encounter this fall. Moose Wyman and I played against one another in the 1935 event, so I sent a memorial gift in his name.”

The Reverend Bob Thomas writes to remind us that we left the name of Bill Jones off the list of WW II casualties in our Sep- tember column. Although Bill was from Hanover, his father being a German profes- sor at Dartmouth, he roomed with Bob his senior year.

Bob Achom from Ft. Myers, Fla., writes that he keeps in touch with Ev Woodman and George McHroy. He has just returned from a trip to Banff and Lake Louise via Van- couver, which he assures us is just as scenic as it is cracked up to be.

In closing, may we wish one and all a happy and healthy Christmas season. See you in ’94!
