Remember back in the spring of '39 when all those old guys with the figure '29 on their white hats were whooping and howling and trying to act like a bunch of freshmen celebrating after the first set of finals? Well, sir, as a group we won't be very much different, come this June, which is a pretty roundabout way of reminding one and all that we're working on our tenth year as Alumni. It doesn't seem right, somehow, but it's a pretty hard thing to deny.

It doesn't take a Gallup poll to suggest that we've broadened ourselves, both mentally and, of course, physically. It ought to be a good show when we gather under that big white tent this spring!

And just to show you that '39 is moving into positions of responsibility within the Dartmouth circle, it might be in order to list nine classmates who are holding down official spots in the many Dartmouth Clubs throughout the country. We have Secretaries: JackCoulson, Long Island Club; Bill Hyde, Tacoma Club; Colby Howe, Seattle Club; Cornie Miller, Philadelphia Club; Johnny Page, Central Pennsylvania Club: and Robb DeGraff, the Delaware Club. We have a Treasurer, Ralph Sperry of the Bridgeport Club, and we have Dave Lilly, a member of the Exec. Committee of the Twin Cities Club. Even your scribe finds himself on the Exec. Committee of the General Alumni Assoc., and there are probably more such official positions held within the College circle of which we are unaware at the moment.

HERE & THERE: At the May Associations meetings in Hanover, we had a small tight nucleus of '39ers on hand to take in the proceedings. Johnny Page was there with pretty wife, Ellen, and reported that young Francie (aged 6) and Jonathan (aged 2) are in fine health. Along about December, we were told, there will be another Page in the family. Jack Coulson also reported on his family, wife Billee and young son Doug, whom he had left at his home in Freeport, L. 1., for the weekend. Dune and Rhoda Farr were very much in evidence, drinking up various and sundry information on Alumni Funding, as well as an occasional bit of spirits to keep the morale at a peak Coulson passed 011 a bit of news about Doug Farrington, who recently passed his NY State Bar Exams, and then moved in with Haft & Farrington, attorneys, to practice. Doug is living at 26 James St., Babylon, L. 1., and is practicing in Jamaica. Doug and wife Grace have a daughter, name of Susie And word comes that old Dick Schumacher and wife Shirley, have two sons, live in Merrick, L. 1., from where Dick hustles to the Best Foods Inc. outfit and does a bit of accounting G. Morris(Monty) Gray, according to the austere banker's journal, the "American Banker," has been elected a director of the Portsmouth (N. H.) Trust Cos Kenny Mac Donald busy making law history in Seattle, announces the addition of a third associate to the firm of Harper & Mac Donald Big Hank White was out our way last June with his little guv Hank junior (aged 1) and his charming missus, Elaine. Hank is the manager of product development with the Flinkote Cos., of N. Y. C., manufacturers of building material. Donald Hopkins of the New England Mutual, kindly wrote us about Russ Fette, who is the supervisor of the St. Louis general agency. Russ was one of 18 underwriters to qualify for the 24th post-war training seminar at the home office in Boston, last June GeorgeBoswell writes that he successfully passed the crucial exams for his Ph.D. degree in French and History, in Princeton. He is now busy on his doctoral dissertation, which should take about one year Bill Remington, has of course, been in the national news picture, but you know as much about that as does your scribe.

WORLD PICTURES: Seen buzzing around the Hanover Inn at various times last summer were Bob Alpert and wife, Irv and Mrs. Naitove, and Doc and Mrs. Spitz Zeke Hill writing a book about the Winooski River, one of the "Rivers of America" series, and very good too, according to the critics John Kelleher still professoring at Harvard, on Irish history and literature GeorgieHanna tackling the Mass. Bar Exams, and presumably well through same by now Endy Smith and pretty wife, Georgette, hobnobbing with Opie Richardson on the Cape this summer Bobby Jacobsen qualifying for the National Amateur Golf tournament, and winning his first match Sam Dix traveling out of N. .... Kenny Langmuir an account executive with Patroon Broadcasting Cos., WPTR, Hotel Ten Eyck, Albany, N. Y Countless new address which will be reported next month.

FOLLOWING THE STORK: Cornie Miller missed the Association meetings in Hanover last spring in deference to the arrival of Melinda Earl, a young lady who weighed in at 8 lbs. 6 oz., but he visited the Hanover Plain with wife Janet to take in "Hanover Holiday" at a later date.

DOWN THE AISLE: A little summer activity in this department was afforded by Pep Gray who took Rita Joan Towne as his wife at Northfield, Vt., August 2 In the "to be" column, Bud Finck gave his promises to Miss Renee Marcus of Nogales, Ariz, as reported in the Boston Herald, of August 5 Miss Ann K. Gerhauser of Montclair, N. J. and Rev. Steve (Fran) TSachelder became engaged about July 8. Steve has been the pastor of the First Congregational Church of Middletown, N. Y., since May 23. The marriage is scheduled for December.

THE CLEARING HOUSE: Congratulations are once again in order to the Class and also to Dune and Rhoda Farr for a very fast finish in the Alumni Fund Green Derby. We went from a very poor also-ran position to a close tie for third in the final standings. Seventythree percent of the class contributed which was three percent less than last year, but still is a good solid figure for a class of our size.

Plans for another '39 picnic and the usual block of tickets for the Yale game. Oct. 30, are in the works. More about this later via "Thirty-Nine Out."
