JUDAISM'S PRESENCE AT Dartmouth is growing once again. The College, after receiving hundreds of complaints about the small size of the current Hillel House, plans to build a new $2.2 million facility to be called the Center for Jewish Life.
Time was there weren't enough Jews at Dartmouth to fill a classroom. Today, the current Hillel House, located on Summer Street, is too small for the hundreds of students and residents of the Upper Valley who use the facility weekly. The new center will have a kosher kitchen, classrooms, guest quarters, and room enough to hold services for 250 people.
The money has already been earmarked from the current $425 million Capital Campaign. Construction is tentatively planned to begin early this year on a site across the street from Aquinas House.
