Several issues back I reported that Audrey Prashker had moved to Tokyo and married a man she met at a 'triple-decker driving range. Audrey wrote to inform me that that man, Alec Clarke, was surprised at his exclusion from the story. After all, Alec is a Dartmouth graduate, and Audrey was an exchange student. Alec is a systems consultant for Merrill Lynch Japan in Tokyo. Audrey did not deny that Alec proposed at a driving range.
Dave Bumstead, who led our freshman class in die sophomoric cheers that provoked letters of protest from shocked alumni, has settled down. Last summer he married Heather Taylor in DeWitt, N.Y. In attendance were Mike McClintock, Mike Barrett, BillGoodspeed, and Buddy Ide. Bump is now general counsel of Andritz (U.S.A.) Inc., an industrial equipment manufacturer in Muncy, Pa. If the New York Times wedding announcement is to be believed, Bump graduated from Dartmouth with more honors than General Schwartzkopf.
Dave Cambell is a cardiologist in Lakeview, Ill, but he prefers to think of himself as an arterial plumber. He snakes micro-thin wires through his patients' veins in order to reach and clean the clogged arteries. Dave and his wife, Linda, are expecting their first child.
Andy Watson, named last year as Entrepreneur of the Decade, has a new venture. For a relatively small fee, A-Wat will "clean up" your credit report. Tired of those late-night dunning calls from American Express? That third mortgage on the starter home isn't coming through? Call A-Wat, and rest easy.
Timothy Nolan has joined Rich Products Corporation as director of tax. Rich Products, located in Buffalo, N.Y., is the nation's largest family-owned frozen foods manufacturer. It makes Rich Whip, Coffee Rich, Farm Rich, and Ready to Whip, not to be confused with the X-rated film of the same name.
Peter Morse just returned to New York City after a stint in Los Angeles pursuing an acting career. Among other roles, Pistol played a customer at the Cheers bar. When I spoke to him last fall he was looking for a position in real-estate sales and was citing his acting career as prior job experience.
Mark Lewis's coup has succeeded. After a heated battle, Mark was crowned king of the Dartmouth Alumni Club of Fairfield County. Accepting victory, Mark promised a new beginning, a new deal, a new frontier, and a new slogan.
Rob Ruocco is a director of Seaman's Furniture Corp., a metropolitan New York furniture chain whose storewide "blowout" sales are legendary. According to Roc, Seaman's specializes in lacquered black and red furniture,
at exceptional prices. Like Bill Clinton, I strive for diversity, but this can be difficult. For example, two of the women whom I had planned to mention this month declined lengthy write-ups. It seems they had recently hired illegal aliens to care for their children and wanted to avoid the spotlight and the resultant IRS scrutiny.
In June 1980, at the urging of our class, Dartmouth awarded an honorary degree to a 37-year-old former athlete for his extraordinary contributions both on and off the field of play. As the years have passed, that degree has become as much a feather in Dartmouth's cap as it was in Arthur Ashe's. We all mourn the passing of this great man, who we were privileged to honor.
