Endy and Jeannie Smith were in York Harbor, Maine, for a weekend in July, visiting Jeannie's daughter Sandy, and family, who live in a marvelous old restored house. It is not far from John Hancock's warehouse, in which, it is rumored, contraband was stashed during the 1770s.

Bun playing safe, hit short of the water, his third shot going to the middle of the green. His opponent, now lying three, hit a marvelous approach to the green that stopped just 12 inches short of the cup. Bun two putted for his par. As the fans were moving to the seventh tee, assuming another conceded putt, Bun was busy cleaning his ball. His opponent spent considerable time marking his ball, then lining up his putt.

"The United Nations—Its Role and Missions for American Armed Forces" is the title of an article appearing in the July issue of the Marine Corps Gazette written by Col. Jim Donovan.

Over the years Jim has written many articles as well as two books, and has been the editor of Leatherneck Magazine, as well as president and publisher of the Army, Navy, Air Force Journal. He joined the marines in 1939 as a second lieutenant, retiring from active duty in 1963. He continues to be an acute observer of the national security scene and a prolific writer.

Another old marine, Buzz Waters, along with wife Janie, spent a hot and humid nighwith us here in York during July. The occasion was to attend the memorial service of a mutual friend. We spent our time trying to beat the heat and swapping the usual lies.

We close with a wish for a happy and satisfying Thanksgiving to all.
