We are off to Thailand tomorrow, "sans kids," so this will be one of my shorter efforts.

Mark Davis has just been named a managing director of Solomon Brothers. Congratulations, Mark!

Also in January, James Schwing joined Senator Herb Kohl's staff as a legislative assistant, handling budget, pensions, banking, and housing issues. Herb Kohl is the Democratic Senator from Wisconsin. Prior to his move to Capitol Hill, James had a private law practice in New York City, and most recently was something called "nominations counsel" with the Senate Judiciary Committee. (Don't ask me, I don't know about these things!)

Annette Gordon-Reed wrote proudly to announce the latest addition to the family, Gordon Penn Reed, born October 22. Annette and husband Robert live in Manhattan with Gordon and older sister Susan Jean Gordon Reed. Robert is an attorney and Annette is an assistant professor at New York Law School.
