The letters, one by one, have been arriving from people planning on attending the TENTH REUNION a [month from now (June 18-20 for those of you seeking the Clueless Classmate of the Year Award). Apparendy, there is a hot rumor going around that Frank Davis and Patty Shepard Greene have arranged for 24 continuous hours of "Three Stooges" reruns if it rains. Hey, Mo! Great idea. But it ain't true. And it won't rain. So relax and bring some hiking gear for Moosilauke.
Beth Winnick Falcone lives in Baltimore with Mike, two-and-a-half-year-old Alex, and a second child whose identity is to be determined soon. Beth wants everybody to know that there was an earthquake in Baltimore on March IS. "It was a dark and stormy night. The earth moved. The sky wept. Somewhere off in the distance a dog barked," reported our grand class fundraiser. This brings me to the main point: Beth would like you and me to give careful consideration to the Alumni Fund. We have a Tenth Reunion goal of $200,000. It's aggressive, yes, but very achievable with your help. Please, please, please give this some careful thought. Your contribution will be much appreciated!
Heather Roulston Ettinger is now a mom, thanks to daughter Emily's arrival in February. Jim and Loren Mitchell have added a daughter, Rachel, to their growing clan. Jim was recently elected Maine State Democratic Chairperson. That's interesting. Didn't Jerry Brown, of all people, win the Maine caucuses last year? Hmmm... Gordon MacDonald is finishing his second year at Cornell Law School and will be suffering I mean working in Boston this summer. And one more baby announcement: Deb Robbins Healey brought son Evan safely into the World of Clinton three months ago. Babies! Babies everywhere! No wonder they're charging $40 an hour for childcare during our reunion. After an unwarranted and unexplainable absence from this column, Steve Wimsatt has resurfaced in grand fashion. Steve joined the L.A. office of Arthur D. Little, where he'll be involved in strategic information technology planning and business-process redesign assignments for major corporations. I could write more, but it would take months of effort. Steve's billing rate, however, is undisclosed. Prior to joining ADL, Steve worked at many, many places. These include Nolan, Norton & Co., Hewlett Packard, and IDS/American Express. And here's a news bulletin from Timon Malloy, who has set up a real-estate shop in Lebanon, N.H., called Ardent Realty Services. Heck, he's done more than "set it up": Timon's the president. The Company's services include property management, asset management, leasing-brokerage, and design/construction of commercial projects. Let's hope one of Timon's first projects will be building a 5-Olde Nugget Alley North on Webster Avenue.
Iflhad to name the one person who is most asked-about in this space, it would be Father Jim Nadeau. At long last, we have some news on our elusive yet endearing classmate from Biddeford, Maine. Father Jim recently was awarded the Biddeford-Saco Courier Great Person Award. The honor is given annually to a person who has made strong and positive contributions to making the Biddeford-Saco area a better place to live. As parochial vicar and youth minister for ages kindergarten through college, Father Jim seeks to encourage a personal lifelong commitment to the community. At St. Andre's Parish he's been working with more than 1,000 young people since 1989 in virtually all manners imaginable. These range from soup kitchens to musical performances to tutoring to daycare. It all adds up to 18-hour days. Father Jim has studied widely in the past ten years, spending a summer at the University of Copenhagen, several years studying and teaching in Rome, three months at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, a year in Paris, and divinity school at Edinburgh, Scotland. Father Jim's is a wondrous story. Let's hope he can make it to Hanover next month!
