Last March I kind of forgot about "nostalgia month" and still feel very badly about I that. So, here's my first vivid memory of Dartmouth to share: five of us were on a 'shmen trip together, climbing somewhere in the Mahoosucs, feeling good about life. Then Steve Fishbein asked, "Hey, what did all you guys get on your SATs?" Trouble. Big trouble. I said, "740." He said, "No, I mean your combined score." I said, "That IS my combined score," and began to cry. Ah, nostalgia...
Here's some good news: Libby and WillCattan, effective Christmas Eve '90, have a son named John Churchill Cattan. John checked in at 8 pounds, 6 ounces, or roughly the size of a half-fall quarter keg.
Several months ago I glossed over LangDavison and Kristen Kossmann's wedding. It's time to make amends. Kristen graduated from Connecticut College (Go Huskies!) and received a master's degree in arts administration from New York University. Mr. Lang is director of operations at Paramount Cards and has a M.F.A. from Columbia University. Kristen and Lang were married in Greenwich, Conn. There was an open bar. Otis Day and the Knights played. Actually, the New York Times didn't mention the last two facts.
Liz Mueller just married Cesar Manent on March 23 in Lancaster, Penn. She's recently moved to the Big Apple from Chicago. LauraBordiuk Kasler was due with baby number two on the suspicious date of April 15. And Michelle Ott may be considering selling her condo in San Francisco and moving to New York. Michelle, don't do it it's a jungle over there. Anni Dupre says you should go to Boston instead. I'll put in a plug in for Chicago.
A few weeks ago I was doing what I normally do in the morning: eating multiple powdered sugar doughnuts and staring stupidly at the newspaper. In the "Letters to the Editor section, I think, Igor Sikorsky had written a few thoughts to share with us all. Igor's punchline was: "What would American reaction be to the war if we had to pay for it out of our own paychecks?" He thinks the real cost of the Iraq war may ultimately be the solvency of the U.S. Scary letter, Igor.
From the National Association of Professional Environmental Communications (whew!), this bulletin: Edith F. Farwell has been elected to the board of directors. Edith is an environmental anthropologist, a research associate for The Marina Institute in San Francisco, and an intercultural communication consultant to corporations and organizations in the Bay Area. She has an M.A. in social and cultural anthropology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. NAPEC, founded in Chicago last year, "promotes honest responsible communication among all parties involved in environmental issues."
I ran into Pete Barry at O'Hare Airport recently. It was very early in the morning, so I don't recall too much of what we discussed. What I do remember is that Pete was on his way to Peoria, Ill., and yours truly was heading for Des Moines. Two jetsetters en route to making the world safe for democracy. All we needed was the theme song from "Dragnet" playing in the background Dah Dah DAH DAH!
