Don't forget our mini-reunion October 29-31 in Hanover, which is Homecoming Weekend. Dartmouth plays Harvard. The Trustee election is over—alas, I didn't win. On to new horizons. Thanks for your kind notes and your votes.

Great news from Hanover about six legacies who graduated in June: Bruce Andrews, son of Pete Andrews of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Albie Drew, daughter of Ben Drew of Shelburne Falls, Mass.; Tamar Gerber, daughter of Roger Gerber of Scarsdale, N.Y.; Richard Matusow, son of the late Paul Matusow; Christine Mickelson, daughter of Mick Mickelson of Portland, Ore.; and Andrew Sezak, son ofMarv Sezak of Brockton, Mass.

Martin Sherwin was recently appointment as director of Dartmouth's John Sloan Dickey Endowment for International Understanding. Martin is quoted as saying, "I am delighted to return to Dartmouth to take on the challenge of heading the Dickey Endowment, and I come to the job deeply committed to the endowment's primary mission: the promotion of international understanding... My goal for the next decade is to build research, teaching, and outreach programs that will make Dartmouth synonymous with educational leadership in the effort to create

a humane and peaceful 21st-century world." Martin taught at UC-Berkeley and received his doctorate in 1971. He then taught and researched at Cornell and Princeton, and in 1980 joined Tufts, where he was the Walter S. Dickson Professor of History and the founding director of Tufts Nuclear Age History and Humanities Center. He is also the founding director and executive producer of the Global Classroom, a "spacebridge" program that employs TV satellite technology to link university students in Moscow and the United States for interactive discussions about the great issues of the day. (Maybe Martin can bring the Great Issues course back to Dartmouth.)

Al Munro just became a father again in May, and he will also become a grandfather this summer. Can anyone beat that? Al has been making phone calls to raise money for Dartmouth, and he advises that the feedback from our classmates has been more positive than a few years ago. But we still have too many giving just $59 as a protest.

Al also reports that Bill Sweet is an executive vice president at Bank of California in San Francisco, where he runs the corporatebanking operation.

In Boston Walter J. Peterson, president of Franklin Pierce College in Plymouth, Mass., received the Robert Frost Contemporary American Award for individuality, hard work, and humanitarianism.

I understand George Kraus has again sold a business that he started up and built into a major enterprise. See you in Florida, George.

Class Officers weekend in May was OK. President John Ferries and I were able to hear some really upbeat speeches on the future of Dartmouth. We were enjoying an interaction seminar with Fred Webster when he had to depart in a hurry because he is an important member of the Volunteer Fire Department, and they had a major blaze to handle. Oh well, first things first.

Have a great summer and send me your notes, calls, and FAXes.
