Latin America is in the news. Hot continent. Vast potential. Big market. Stable governments. Need to know more? Call Peter Cleaves. Peter is director of the Institute of Latin American Studies at the University of Texas in Austin, the largest Latin American center in the U.S.. He teaches politics, writes articles, and conducts research (currently two projects one on economic reform, another on democratic governance).

Peter says his job at UT is "less an academic position and more an exercise in organizational development lots of fan, some exasperation." Dorothy is equally active, both as president of the Austin Chapter of Ampor de las Americas, which runs a Peace Corps-like summer program for young people in Latin America, and with Carriage Trade, a catering firm. Geoffrey, a '93 graduate of Colgate, is looking for a job in international finance. Rachel just completed her freshman year at Dartmouth, maintaining a Dartmouth tradition that started with Peter's dad, Dick '32. Those Green roots run deep, so much so that Peter has joined the Dartmouth Club of Houston, a mere threehour drive from home.

The last undeveloped piece of coastline on the Newjersey shore? Strathmere near Toms River. Who lives there? Ted Temple and family. Who's trying to sell real estate (presumably not in Strathmere) as executive director of the New Jersey Shore Multiple Listing Service? Ted T. Who's trying to create a statewide MLS? TT again. And who's on the finance committee of the United Way of Atlantic County and is vice president of the Strathmere Fire Company? You guessed it! Ted's wife, Barbara, is also an executive director. She's at Contact Cape Atlantic, a crisis helpline for the Jersey Shore. Daughter Julie, a recent grad of Mt. Holyoke, works for the ad agency Arnold Fortuna in Boston.

Twenty-fifth Reunion chairman Dave Johnson has been executive director of the Capital Area Substance Abuse Council in West Hartford, Conn., for more than three years. It's the "toughest job of my professional life, but we've made some dents in a complex problem which bores many people but affects all of us." Dave's also on the board of two youthservice agencies,, spends lots of time with kids (see below) and loves his new "stepper" machine.

Dave's wife, Hera Cohn-Haft, is a psychiatrist with a private practice and community clinic responsibilities. From the top, chronologically, Rebekah, 15, will soon be a singing, soccer-playing sophomore; Marrah, 11, is a scholarly, clarinet-playing sixth grader; Alexander, 9, is an imaginative fourth-grader; and Isaac, 5, is a kindergarten graduate known affectionately as the "little earthquake."

Dave's doctor is Rick Abraham, and Dave sees Will Parkerton and Rob Trafford around town.

In another eastern capital, Albany, Bill Jacobs has joined Besicorp Group Inc., as a vice president dealing with legal and financial aspects of project development, cogeneration, and alternative-energy projects. This follows a nine-year stint in economic and community planning. Livia is an assistant professor of geriatrics at Albany Medical College. Lev, 16, is a seasoned Boy Scout wilderness trooper; while Gabriel, 14, is into heavy-metal guitar.

Laddie Jeffers has been an institutional stockbroker with Neuberger & Berman for the "better part of 29 years." Kathy works at the same Manhattan firm, and they both raise ten-year-old Julia, a "terrific, beautiful young lady going on 25."

David Coughlin, a Baker City, Ore., attorney, taught his daughter Jenny to ski when she

was four. Now Jenny ranks fourth in the 11-12-year-old division in Oregon. Ed Jereb rendezvoused with his kids a few months back, meeting Margot '92, on leave from teaching in Siberia (no misprint), and Justine '94, studying at Montpelier University, on a tour of Barcelona, and hiking in the south of France.

Keep the good news coming!
