"I spent a pleasant four hours being interrogated by the police...
-Chad Rosenberger
More from our correspondent Chad, settled now in the Eastern Block: "God love Macedonia! I just came here from Kosovo, the Albanian province of Serbia, now under military rule." Chad was interrogated by the police mainly because he was carrying the phone number of the Albanian Defense Ministry. Any others thinking of traveling to these war-torn nations had better leave that little black book at home.
This month's "Brush With Fame" candidate is Bernie Shimkus, profiled in the Burlington County Times. Bernie was promoted to media supervisor by Foote, Cone and Belding after five years with the company. Bernie will take on media planning for the Pennsylvania Lottery, Kiwi, and some TV accounts. Also on the move is John Elliott, who was guest of honor at a recent party thrown by the Dartmouth Club of Thailand. John passed through Thailand on his eight-month backpacking trip through Asia.
We should be proud of Edward Kim, who has been awarded a 1993-94 Klingenstein Fellowship at the Delbarton School. Twelve teachers and administrators from across the U.S. are awarded this honor each year. Edward will use the time to study at Columbia and to work on a year-long research project. In addition, Edward will be grading some nasty AP physics exams as a faculty consultant this year remember those days? And by the time you read this, he will be married again to his wife, Hanne. They eloped last year but are doing the ceremony over again for friends and family.
Ben Mackey sent me a message on Compuserve informing us of the not-so-latest news on Phil Burrow. As you will remember, Phil was our man in the Gulf. We now learn that his call sign is "Maverick" no, just joking actually it's "Goose." Hah, hah. His call sign is actually "Stain," and when last heard from he was trying to decide whether or not he should stay in the navy and work on the Super Tomcat or go to business school. Well, Phil?
And now for some quickies: Bill Furlong is a financial manager in consumer marketing at Sports Illustrated. Mary Beth Faubert is married to Andrew Mahoney, and the pair recendy bought a house in Wellesley, Mass. She works at Bay Bank and is getting her M.B.A from Babson at night. Sean and Claire (Rehnberg) Nicholson have recendy had their second child. Raoul Socher is engaged and living in Washington, D.C. Raoul is in business with his father. Scott Isherwood is now a proud father. Kathy Bannon Keith has graduated from law school. Dina Bloom Browne and her husband, John, have had their first child. Rich Levitan and his wife, Anna, are living in the Back Bay area of Boston with their dog, Champ, named after Steve Sobel's old car. (Actually, it's short for "Champagne" we know who wears the pants in that family.) And finally, Rob Thompson was married on Memorial Day and will be starting his medical residency soon. Yes, I had dinner with Pat Donovan and his wife, Monique. Thanks, Pat, for all the info!
Well, that's all folks. Keep the news coming. 50-cent stamp!
